GH2 GH3 Picture and promo video of the GH3 posted!!!

What makes you think it is going to be that much better than stock after Panasonic has already doubled and tripled the bit rates? Sure you might be able to get a fraction more out of it but really increasing the bit rate over stock with this camera will not be a necessity.

I somewhat question the per frame quality level with an i-frame codec at only 72mbits/s. Typically an i-frame codec would be a lot higher. Although AVC-Intra does impressive quality with 100mbits so maybe it could work. This would leave me to believe it will still be slightly crippled compared to AVC-Intra such as 4:2:0 color and higher compression or else why not just throw in AVC-Intra and be done with it. It almost sounds like this is to replace the mjpeg mode which kind of makes sense now that the AVC encoder wraps in other wrappers.

Perhaps Apple airplay? Imagine watching footage right from the camera through airplay on a retina iPad or better yet right to a 1080p Apple TV hooked up to a massive monitor. This really could be the direction in the future as opposed to a HDMI out. I would love to mount my iPad to my rig to use as a 10" HD monitor.

Hmm. Looks like someone wasn't following the leaked specs!

I hope the release date isn't all that far off as I've been looking forward to the GH3 for sometime now.

Curious where the XLR attachment goes. Hotshoe? Integrated into the vertical grip? Looks like a slick camera though.

Holy CRAP. I am sold SOLD SOLD. This is the kind of upgrade we deserve. Very impressed with what I'm seeing. Those few shots with non-lumix glass showing off some more cinematic stuff were ... very nice. Damn... I need this camera like yesterday.

You know, looking at the video again more closely at the cinema part... I'm almost wondering if that's really the GH3, looks surprisingly good, as in out of GH / DSLR league. Anyone else salivating?

I was gonna get one, anyway, but it may end up being the only actual camera body I pick up this year if Magic Cam doesn't start shipping in October.

Painful thing is knowing that it'll still be the same amount of money to get it up to a decent place upon first shipment. That is, an external recorder (likely Ninja-2, forgot that Shuttle only records DNxHD.), batteries, new cage, [cheaper] SSDs for the recorder, maybe a new bag to keep the GH2, GH3, and Rebel in... and a copy of Resolve since that won't be with the camera...

=T It's like Alien vs Predator: no matter who wins, I lose.

Okay so now what say ye? Was this tiny promotional video enough for any of you to hold off on getting another camera? Perhaps enough to cancel your EF BMCC order and happily wait for the 4/3 to get in at a leisurely pace?

For me, if this gets in anytime soon, I'm gonna settle on the GH3 and wait at a distance for the BMC to come out in 4/3 and mature w/ firmware updates etc. This is a very comfortable choice in the meantime I think. That body... that sweet magnesium alloy body is just... dang.

It's not very easy to judge from a youtube compressed 720p video! But once they can prove there's a true increase in DR and not just any marketing scheme I'll join the salivating party..

Yeah the compression sucks, but I have a decent 6th sense about this kind of thing. Even though I can't nit pick at the detail, I can still look at other aspects of the image. I have an inkling that the DR has improved, but hard to tell in any of those shots. I would freak out if by Monday they actually had a mini short prepared to show it off. Maybe Philip Bloom got a bit of play time with it. Why can't Panny just throw out a couple bodies to some indie folk and get a really good video or 2 up for launch? It would absolutely do wonders for their launch sales and build up serious interest. Anyhow, I'm glad they're not sweeping the video capabilities of this little monster under a rug like they did with the GH2.

Welll... since you asked...

The Magic Cam's important to me, as someone that would use it on high and extremely low budgets, because it lends a hand where it may (and will be) hard to control light. As much as people talk about lowlight capabilities, it's easy to fix that issue in most scenarios with a mere two thousand watts of light and some know how. However, it is NOT easy to fix shooting in broad daylight, high noon, without getting into 10x or 20x... or larger. It typically involves a lot of C-Stands, a lot of sand bags, and a few hands.

Thirteen stops of DR, the flexibility to massage what I couldn't do on set in post... well, that goes a long way. Despite that I'm positive I'd shoot out ProRes ninety five percent of the time, the advantage is that it's there to be used.

That said... camera isn't available, may not even be available for a long time and GH3 will probably be here pretty soon. Call it a hunch.

I probably won't cancel my pre-order, but I'm just not going to count on it being my next camera as of now. Too shaky.

I'm glad the focus has started to shift over to DR and usable exposure ranges. . . It's just like the megapixel race is going to become the Dynamic Range race!

But seriously there are few people out there who have been able to utilize the GH2 as good in the professional field as you... so if the color science and latitude is there I look forward to see what you can squeeze out of this camera! Since I turned this post into a praise galore that includes your work too L1N3ARX! :)

Definitely. I can see you needing the BMC soon as possible, as I'm sure you'd start to make money on it day one. My desire for the BMC hasn't diminished an iota since nab, and I still dream about getting it. But, this GH3 may be more than enough to settle me down. With a decent increase in DR, and hopefully ISO issues fixed... this could really be THE low budget camera for the next 2 years... again.

Are you thinking about picking up a 4/3 BMC as well? Don't know if I'll ever have 2 bodies, but no matter what, I know I'll be using the 4/3 at some point early next year. I don't think I have an excuse anymore. With these 2 cameras solidifying some future 4/3 domination, I think I need to get the Voigtlander now. Really running out of excuses.
