GH3 GH3 Bug?

Anyone tried to assign ETC to a Function Button?
Doesn't work even though the option is there and it assigns it correctly.

Again, I know how to use ETC, I know it doesn't work in 60p, it works fine on the GH3 but it doesn't work when assigned to a Function Button.
Obviously having the ability to double your FL with a button press (in this case I assigned it to fn1) is optimum way to do it.
I was psyched when I saw the option to assign ETC in the menu, but...
Now along with fixing that, how about assigning Audio Record levels to a Function Button?

I didn't think that ETC had anything to do with the lens being used. The sensor isn't located in the lens.

ETC has no effect with a MF lens like Voigtlander 25/0.95, whether the ETC is on or off.

In addition, ETC does not work when you are shooting FHD/60P, FHD/60i, HD/60p/I, slow speed, toy effect (page 119 of manual), burst at SH, HDR on, quality at RAW, Multi Exp (page 121). There may be other conditions under which the ETC may not work.

My ETC is working with all my manual lenses. Leica, Nikkor, canon. Just not in the 60p modes as stated by Slau.

Sorry, I was wrong. ETC works with my Voigtlander lenses too. I just have to remember to take the camera out of my Custom function, which is set to shoot FHD/60P.

I don't think you got my point.
ETC is working, in this case it's a 20mm 1.7.
The bug is getting it to work when assigning it to a Function Button.
Try it, you can assign it...it's an option, but it doesn't turn ETC on or off - you have to do it in the menu.
Hence why I think there's a bug.
Anyone make ETC work via a Function Button?

Now, I understand what you are trying to do. No, I could not find a way to turn on ETC directly without going through the menu first. With GH2, I am able to assign a function key to turn on the ETC directly. May be some one will find the trick to do it.

Exactly.
The option is there and you can assign it but it doesn't work.

Maybe it can't be assigned so that Panasonic has to issue a firmware to fix and so that Vitaly can grab a hold of it and start the hack?

Yet I have read some reviews that say the GH3 no longer needs a hack because it's already very good. Not that I agree since the GH3 looks pretty much the same as GH2 and the hacked GH2 still looks better than GH3. It would be interesting to see what a hacked GH3 could offer.

I figure there will be a few issues like this that need to be addressed in an early firmware update.
Right now, everything else seems to be working well.

I'm in the middle of several locations but as soon as I can set it up with controlled lighting I want to shoot some tests to see what's up with the All-I vs IPB thing as well as an ACVHD comparison.
I'm guessing we're going to shoot them at 50mps 24 and 60p .mov.
So far, with the limited setup time I've had, it does look like Natural -5 -5 -5 -5 is the flattest starting point and the image looks a lot more organic than a lot of the things I'm seeing in Standard and with any in camera sharpening.
We did a couple of initial tests with sharpening at -3 and it was way to edgy in post.

GH3 vastly superior to stock GH2
GH3 improved image quality over hacked GH2 as someone who has both. Better low light and better DR. Some of the extreme hacks come close in my opinion and hold some more detail but the fact that the GH3 image looks just as good at half the bitrate (50mb IPB) shows how much more efficient the encoder is. It will be interesting to see what a hacked bitrate can do to solve some issues that pop up in all-I at 72mbit as that is the only weak spot I see so far.

Do you see the 50mb.mov as the best at this point.
I was interested to see a couple of thoughts regarding the AVCHD as the better image.
Of course it'a all contingent on so many other factors, which is why we're going to light and shoot some precise comparisons.
But for now, with very little time with the camera, it seems the 50mb .mov approach will make the most sense.

I haven't compared the 50mb to AVCHD. I really have enjoyed not using AVCHD for a change.

Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise never having shot with it and bringing the 1st tests into the studio the other day.

Suddenly the FCPX log and transfer window opened up and we were looking at different workflow approaches from the same card.
No problem, but it is a bit clunky and all.mov going forward will be the way I'm sure.

This is real jump into the fire stuff for us with the GH3.
I just started producing a month long project, a regional promotional film and TV campaign.
We were going to move to the new Canon "C " cameras, but the no-overcrank ruled them out ultimately.

So I decided at the last minute to add a couple of GH3s for slo-mo.
We never pre-ordered anything but were able to get a pair here the day before we started shooting.
I'm just trying to get all the profiles and rigging together (hey Zacuto..how about that EVF).

I think these cameras, setup properly, might get used for a lot more than slo-mo.
I'll know a lot more in a couple of weeks - I think we've got locations set up for almost every day till Xmas.
And we're shooting everything from big scenics to restaurant scenes, concerts, winter sports...the whole nine yards.

We'll put it through it's paces really quickly.

I assigned ETC to function button 3, no problem. Works fine.

Aha, early operator error.
I'm used to a simple manual exposure control and didn't realize I needed to be working in the "Creative Video Mode".

Cool, my assigned fn1 ETC works, and I've discovered that you can adjust audio levels directly with the on-screen control because of my new best friend, CVM.
And of course, you Ralph.
