GH3 GH3 arrives in USA

When shooting a particularly hectic event it would just be one less thing I have to worry about. You set the limit that it can go (say 1600) and lock in your shutter speed and aperture and all I have to worry about was maintaining focus. I realize it's not ideal for most situations, but having it as an option was nice when you're on the move a lot.

I'll get by fine without it, I just liked having it as a backup. Why leave it out, when it's available in other shooting modes? Just a menu toggle option: enable auto-ISO in full manual.

This makes it sound like I'm dissatisfied with the camera when I am anything but. It's an incredibly minor personal preference in a sea of great features.

What the hell is this?

Moire all over the place in the first shots... Worse than Canon. Although later, with the same codec, the image seems much better... What could be the deal here?

Read.....

He is using the Panasonic 12-35mm lens and in the first test at a low bit rate mode. Regardless even on the GH2 that horrible lens causes moire and aliasing. I rented it twice and so many shots were ruined...... My advice never use that lens. Some people have had success, but on two different times I rented it I had the same problem like you see in that video. All of my other lenses look beautiful and never had that problem.

Also, unless he has two cameras this confirms the PAL/NTSC debate about world cameras... he shoots both 25p and 24p on the same camera so they do in fact shoot for both NTSC and PAL.

What are you talking about. I have the 12-35 and use it on my gh2 and af100 and it's a lovely lens.

I rented this Lens twice and both times a lot of my footage was ruined. No other lens caused this problem. This was using a GH2 and Sanity 5 hack. Once again I rented it a second time just to make sure.... So yeah out of the so many lenses I have tested I would stay away from the 12-35mm. Beyond sharp lens that causes aliasing and moire. Now if you are one of the few than consider yourself lucky.

At it's extreme this is a problem I was having with that lens, No other lens caused this problem. My GH2 is less than 3 months old bought brand new from amazon.

Can you describe the problem with the footage. I just got that lens and did some shooting the other day and had this weird digital smearing and artifacting going on. Mostly when the lens was at the wide end. I had the sanity 5 hack but I have taken the hack off since then and have not had the problem. I wouldn't blame the lens when you have done something to the camera to make it behave in way that Panasonic did not intend.

I saw you added a video to your post. I was having the same problem with mine. Same hack. I decided I would rather have the lens than the hack.

Yeah, it's the only lens with that Hack that causes that problem. No other lens caused this. Amazing you had the same problem, wow!
Since then though I have never had that problem using any other lens.
Regardless I will be reverting my camera back to original firmware and selling it.

I just bought a Panasonic GH3.

For someone who is considering making the transfer from a Nikon or Canon DSLR to the GH3, what lenses would you guys recommend? I read this article that Phillip Bloom wrote and he recommends a lens with a constant f stop.

My question first would be, do you own any lenses, if so can you list them?

Secondly no one lens does it all, my suggestion would be to rent and see exactly what you like. Some people shoot on zooms and love them, same goes for fixed focal length lenses.
Also no one lens does it all and in any situation a lens that is good for one thing , might be bad for another.....
