GH3 GH3 arrives in USA

I'm just a dopey DP, & simply rely on my eyes, but if someone qualified in the Hollywood area has access to the proper test equipment I might be able to slip away for an hour or so within the next few days, but they'd be responsible for posting the files, & results.

I thought about asking Clairmont, or Abel Cine, but am swamped, & would need someone else to handle the heavy lifting.

There are sure to be lots of cameras in the wild very shortly, & imagine most questions will be addressed.

I'm kinda over the whole chart thing. I'd rather see from camera tests just scenes on a set of sticks with textures, colors, different lighting, and of course skin tone and detail. I guess if you want to throw some charts in front of all that in short clips, go ahead.

Bern's right though. In a matter of days there will be plenty of footage to peep on. This camera will be everywhere.

agreed! im also tired of seeing locked off shots with limited to no motion in the frame. because thats not the kind of shot that gives modern cmos cameras problems
 
I just call L Lozeau here in Montreal (Canada), they have it in stock... I'm going there tonight :)
 
I'm 2 seconds away from Charging my credit card...... Either buy a new GH3 or new iMac computer that just came out today. I was going to wait till January to buy, man the Misses might kill me. If I buy though I can offset some of the price by selling my Gh2, + I got a couple of gigs lined up/

Decisions....
I really want the BMCC though, but as of now it's a little out of my price range for what I'm currently doing.

Which IMac were you looking at? Were you going to edit with it? I need to get one, too! Do you use Premiere?
 
Well I have a 2011 iMac that works pretty good. Some graphic options are not the best but I'm still able to do everything I want. Heck I even grade and use Red Cine on my Base 2011 21.5" iMac.

From reviews I'm reading though, it seems like there's only 15-20% performance increase on the new models. Still thinking about it.... On a side note if you use premiere you might want to buy a PC. We were actually talking about it yesterday amongst my friends. For the same amount of money that we spend on Macs you can buy a more powerful system in PC land. Now I don;t know if it's just me, but every PC I ever owned has died on me and I vowed to never go back, but I'm thinking about it.....

I edit in Final Cut Pro, but I need to start transitioning to Premiere as it looks like that is the future as well.
Also just received a phone call for another job I might be doing next week, so that's more $$ coming.... I edit a lot but also shoot, most of my money is made editing though. Still I really want to get out there and shoot more and the GH3 is calling me.
 
Can someone please update us on the audio features of the GH3, with pictures or a video. I'm very curious about the audio meters; how to adjust while recording; audio monitoring via headphones and if there is any kind of AGC. Thank you.
 
I ordered from B&H about a month back but it never indicated if it was a "pre-order" or what and got an email this morning just saying it' "out of stock". Seems like they just do some kind of "shadow" pre-orders or something; be nice if it was a bit more transparent about if it came in and their just fulfilling first-come first-serve or something.
So I called another place and ordered another from a small shop that was great to me when GH2 came out. I'll need another anyway. Frankly it can't come soon enough if just for dropping the MTS format like a hot potato. I shoot 2 cam interviews, edit in Premiere 6. I'm loving premiere but MTS is constant fail with Pluraleyes (on a MAC), and even with Mountain Lion it turns out that you can no longer re-link footage if you loose clip relations thanks to the cheesy quicktime update that displays MTS files as one big clip. Adobe officially has no fix until "further updates".

I liked saving the space with MTS but everything else about working with it is a nightmare file management wise, it's just so hard for systems to look at it, there is never a simple way to use it. I switched to Premiere partly to use it natively but it's still buggy now. I shoot tons of Doc footage alone and need total efficiency with post when possible. Not to mention a real, built-in, 3.5 headphone jack! I'm wetting myself justing thinking about it. Even wireless control might be nice for some lone 2-cam interviews. It's not possible to monitor at all wirelessly is it? That would be like space age stuff. Can't wait for this thing.
