GH2 with 85mm F1.4 Rokinon

How is the weight of the 85/1.4 on the GH2 lens mount? Does it feel like the lens mount could safely support the weight of the lens if the camera was mounted on a tripod without any supplementary support for the lens itself?

This lens weighs the same as the 14-140 kit lens. No support needed. I'm using lenses twice that weight without a problem. But I wouldn't go beyond that without a tripod collar, etc.

I bought a Contax Planar 85/1.4 which with lens adapter weighs about 700 grams...it thasnt arrived yet. I get the feeling thats close to the practical limits of the lens mount. I've heard that 1kg causes the front of the cam a to start to bow! Yikes.

I wouldn't hesitate to use that Planar without support. I've been using 900 gram lenses on two GH1s without any problem whatsoever. But like I said, you're getting close to where a lens needs support - especially since a heavier lens will also most probably be getting longer.

Yes, the Rokinon 85 f/1.4 is a Samyang. They put those out under multiple brands. Nice lens - especially for the money. I tend to usually buy expensive glass and am satisfied with the Rokinon.

I guess it depends on the center of gravity. 85mm 1.4 is a "fat" lens. If the center of gravity is close to the adapter, I wouldn't worry about support.

Do I need an adapter to use the 85mm F1.4 Rokinon with my Gh2?

Yes, and which adapter you need depends on which lens mount your Rokinon has. I have the Nikon mount Rokinon and use a Novoflex MFT/NIK with it. But there are less expensive solutions available if you don't think you'll ever need an adapter for lenses without an aperture ring (which the Rokinon has). Lots of people seem to like the Voightlander adapter.

Does the Olympus version auto focus with the GH2?
My Pentax K mount version is MF even on my Pentax K-7 unless I use the Pentax 1.7x AF adapter for AF in still mode but that won't work on the GH2.

Folks,
I am thinking of getting this lens (Samyang/Rokinon/Bower 85mm f1.4) mostly for shooting talking heads, which means I will probably be shooting at f2.0. Some questions please to those who already have it:
1. How is the sharpness? Is the sharpness good enough for stills, or only for video?
2. How do you find the image when shooting portraits?
3. Is it a good idea to get this lens or just get an old DSLR 50mm f1.4 instead?

1. Sharpness is good. I am shooting portraits with it on (mostly on 2.8), and it is pretty good.
2. Very good.
3. Both :-) I suggest Pentax F1.7 or Canon 50mm F1.4. Both are cheap, and Pentax is, generally, sharper.

I suggest to get whole Samyang lens set (from fisheye towards 85mm).
