General GH2 vs. Canons

Um....isn't that site owned by a user who was banned from this site? Or am I wrong about this?

What exactly are we supposed to glean from this? That the GH2 is a better camera than the 60D for video use? I don't think that was ever in question.

"so it really is no surprise that Canon have let the crown slip"

When are people going to realize that Canon doesn't give a crap about this small small smallllllllllll market? They are in the game to sell still cameras that take stills. Imagine that.

Perrone is right... This hasn't been a small small market at all. They've sound countless thousands of DSLRS for video purposes. Sure, they make more money off the 200 dollar marketed cameras but that's the same for all of the manufacturers.

Canon also gets a huge amount of press from people like Lucas using the 5D and all of the national spots that use it, and same for those using the 7d. I think that people are underestimating how the industy has changed due to the DSLR... The AF100, and to that matter Sony's new camera is a direct reaction to the industries professionals using these DSLRs for high end work. You see DPs now owning cameras instead of just renting and that's a big deal. I believe that Lucas bought a 100 5Ds for one shoot alone.

All in all, it's a great time to be picking up whatever camera cause the competition has to step up. Canon is surprising slow to answer on their video side so let's see what happens...

Yeah, if there would be no video in nikon D90 then there would be no AF100 today, all canon DSLR's with video are reaction to nikon cam.Anyway posts with "vs" phrase in the title could be deleted automatically IMO.
How about gh2 AND canon test instead of VS?

Is there an adaptor for the GH2 to take my canon T2i/550D lenses and does it use the same cards ie i use sandisk EXTREME 20MB/s.

From the theme of Canon's most recent commercials, it's clear they are very aware of the video market....most of them highlight this exclusively. I think they also know that a lot of people won't be aware of the aliasing and moire (the casual users). They're clever with selling the "hip" factor for sure..

yes, there are adaptors, but the nice&cheap ones don't have electronic contacts, for things like focusing and aperture control; they'll be fine on manual lenses, but if you use your camera to control aperture then the lens will be stuck at maximum aperture:

and yes, it records to SD, just like the T2i/550D

I've had a T2i for about 6 months and when i heard about the GH2 i wanted to learn more about the Panny cams. So i did some research and asked an expert. I put up
a summary and details of the differences at my blog. My point of view is using the strengths of both Canon and Panasonic cameras together not either/or.

I really need some tips on why I shouldn't buy the Panasonic GH2 instead of the Canon 60d?

I already now of the 2x magnification. But I'll buy it with the 14-42 lens. For less the price then a Canon 60D with 18-55 kit lens.

I would get the 60D for stills. Also if you want to solely buy Canon lenses.
If there is a way you can borrow both cams before purchase, that would be the best way to know.

I have 2 Gh1(3)'s ,canon 5dM2, 7D and an HMC40. The HMC40 blows all of them away in pure daylight...Barry Green had did a test before and allot were amazed. As far as lowlight....The 5DM2 out did my gh(1)3's and My gh1(3)'s outdid both my canons in other situations. It really all depends on what lens and situations you use it for.
