GH2 vs. Canon 60D Comparison

Given that the video from the 550d/t2i and the 7d and the 60d is virtually identical yet the price points vary so much
it is pretty clear that Canon sees these DSLRs as products designed for stills. The article does not seem to recognize this
and seems to expect canon to step up to the game. They haven't entered the game ... yet.

That's why I'm so excited for both the AF100 and the GH2. I have a set of c-mount lenses just waiting to be used in the GH2's 1:1 crop mode. Exciting times!

Makes me wonder if i should pick up a GH2 as a buddy to the AF100 for b-cam stuff or if the latitude gained in the af100 video mode might make it more difficult to match the two?

Will this have the same video codec as the AF100? If so, I might just go this route instead. All I'm looking for is a moire/aliasing free solution, and I kind of like shooting on a DSLR. It makes shooting fun. :)

I don't see this as a probem at all. It just means one has to be a little more careful with the GH-2 on certain scenes.

If this thing really has no moire problems and has a similar quality in video to the AF100, I'm selling my 7D and getting this. I believe the mirror-less factor means my old FD lenses will be able to be used again, right? If so, that is huge.

Granted, there will be more of a crop factor than I'm working with now (1.6 vs 2) but still, I remember trying to get a soft background with a 1/3" CCD HDV camcorder. I'll take the little bit of crop and be just fine with it. It's still much better than anything on the video side! (Other than the AF100, of course.)

And, man oh man, come on, Panny, let's have uncompressed HDMI out with no overlays. Holy smokes, no contest if that's true.

I'm thankful for this thread, I just shot with the 60D last week and I like it but this thread has really turned me on to the idea of getting a GH2.

In the next days, I will compare the AG-AF100/101, the GH2, the 5D MK II and the Red One with Mysterium X sensor.
Thanks for this thread!

While EOSHD compared resolution and moire and sensitivity, he did not test Dynamic Range.
I would like to know how the GH2 compares with the 60D in that respect. The GH1 DR from testing was rather poor.

+1. I'd love to see the GH2 and AF100 side by side!
Best of luck and hope you have a very heat proof suit!

Depends how you define "rather poor." The human brain has a supposed 40+ stops of total dynamic range, but the eye and optical center can only perceive 7 stops at any given time.

You should have no problem matching the GH-2 and AF-100. I have the GH-1 and the dynamic range is measured at almost 8 stops in "smooth" if I remember correctly. Plenty. The average person wouldn't notice if the AF-100 had 3 more stops, much less 1, unless you're shooting the sky and dark-skin tones or something.

This is very exciting. The whole hacked Gh1 thing never appealed to me for reliablity issues and such... Well if the GH2 is as good or almost as good with all of the tech improvements this will be a great little performer and you'll see a whole bunch of canons for sale.... if they bought it for video that is.
