GH2 Pre-orders

My reference # didn't even work in UPS (completely in the dark) but I did surprisingly received my camera today. I also ordered on Dec 1st, so hopefully you'll get yours today Barry.

After playing with it for a hour or so I can't help but think that this should have been the GH1. Although the GH1 was a great camera in its own right, it had obvious downfalls like wrapping in 1080i, banding, 17mbps, no audio monitoring, etc. I understand that profit margins rule and Panasonic probably made much more money doing it this way (also the technology might not have been there yet) but if they would have came out of the door with this camera, they would have stole the DSLR filmmaking market, which seems to be fixated on Canon only. IMHO

P.S. Pretty clean footage even 1600 ISO from what I can tell so far.

Ordered from PD on Dec. 1st, UPS tracking says it should arrive today.

I also received zero communication, no calls, no notices, no shipping info, nothing. Only way I know it's supposed to be delivered today is the "track by reference" thing.
Same here Barry, I received my GH2 body yesterday and the only delivery info was the "track by reference" thing. When I purchased my TM700 last April from PD EPP I did get tracking info.

The long tortured wait is over. UPS just dropped it off here in frozen Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Ok, I know, it's just a camera, but christ, up here, in the winter, we'll take what we can get. Battery charging now. Tracked it using the UPS reference thingy.

Just picked one two cameras from Unique photo. No mark up, no sales tax, cheap shipping and very friendly service. He has 7 left so tell him that Justyn sent ya. Talk to Alan... was a pleasure to deal with and I made sure they were reputable and it went well... I'll have it on Tuesday... That's a huge blessing indeed.

cheers

Thanks for the heads up. I almost jumped on the phone and then decided to wait things out with my Provantage order since it will save me almost $150. I'm in no hurry here.

Adorama just sent the shipping email notification for my GH2 ordered Oct. 29th. (black 14-42mm).

In the house.

Black body-only version ordered from Panasonic Direct 12/1/10 @ EPP. I didn't receive a tracking # or email from PD, but I did get the "Do you want?" phone call from them. Weird company.

(Charging battery ...)

Note: This GH2 is _not_ for sale.

GH2 is here!

So far only :( moments are no dummy battery for AC power (or seeming support for it on the newly crummified charger [wall plug style, no cord]) and the new battery has a very consumery feel to it. However the GH2 does have the door for the cord to come out the battery compartment, so hopefully we'll see one soon...and I rarely used AC power on my GH1 but I did have 2 batteries, which might take awhile to get for this camera. Also don't like the feel of some of the controls (probably just because I'm so used to the button presses and knob turns of my GH1) and I don't like the fact that the minimum ISO is 160. Other than that, quite happy. Will get to shooting tomorrow!

Ben_B,

Since you got both GH1 and GH2, I'm looking forward to your verdict about GH2 (whether it is worth getting for people who already one GH1(13).

I'll try to inform about AC adapter, as my GH2 that I plan to get on monday is coming with it (due to genius laws preventing exporting LiIon batteries from Japan using any avia mail).

Joe, how long did the battery take to charge that first time? Mine arrives tomorrow from a friend shipping California to Quebec. OMG I can't wait!!!!
Dan, sorry for the delay in seeing your question but I guess by now you know it takes about two hours to charge. Have fun with your GH2 !

I received mine yesterday and after playing with it for an hour or so I'm still not sure if it is worth the upgrade from GH(13). Maybe I need to do more extensive testing before I make a decision. One this that I instantly did not like about GH2 is the built quality. IMO it feels cheap compared to GH1. Also the battery and card slot doors flimsy compared to GH1 (which weren't very good either).

I don't think the build quality or configuration is worse, just different.

The build quality of the GH2 battery charger feels very cheap and fragile. No doubt some people are going to snap their plugs from repeated use. It might be best to attach an extension cord and leave it on permanently.

After waiting an hour plus for a PD rep to answer, I'm told the GH2 is on backorder until JANUARY 20th! If it weren't for the discount, I wouldn't bother. How frustrating...
