GH2 Pre-orders

I have an update for you; we have just been told to expect a shipment during the first half of December

I hope this helps

Yes that helps very much. Thank you for your excellent service. I will definitely consider purchasing from Adorama in the future because of your actions alone.

I have an order in with Adorama as well, and have no intention of canceling. I've spent a lot of money with Adorama over the years and their service has always been top notch. I've also worked in electronic sales in the past and can fully understand the position they are in. Trust me, you're better off with them telling you what they actually know or don't know than making up a date and giving incorrect information to you. A lot of other companies will make stuff up and you'll be mad at them when you find out they lied to you. Nice to know Adorama isn't like that.

Just an FYI: This morning I sent Amazon customer service an email asking them if my Sept. 25, 2010 pre-order for a black GH2 w. 14-42mm lens will be automatically canceled after 60-days.

I received the following reply from them:

=============
"... I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding regarding automatic cancellation of pre-orders after 60 days. We never cancel any pre-orders automatically. I can confirm that we still expect to ship your order between November 29, 2010 and December 27, 2010. It should be delivered to you between November 30, 2010 and January 4, 2011. We'll send you an e-mail when your order is shipped. ..."
=============

So, I guess my Amazon pre-order is OK for now.

Of course, if Adorama wishes to sell a GH2 to me sooner than Amazon -- I have it pre-ordered with both -- that would be even better! :-)

I bet the people that had their orders canceled this morning will be glad to know that their orders were manually and intentionally canceled by a human rather than by a computer. :(

I ordered my GH2 (black) & 14-140 from Amazon on 9/24 - it will arrive 11/24. As for the conspiracy theories about Amazon - they've done the same thing before. When something sells beyond their 1-2 month window they stop taking orders. Nothing unique about the GH2 situation. I fully expect to see my GH2 on my doorstep on 11/24. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Well I was completely wrong! :cry: I guess I had too much faith in Amazon being right. I'm hoping for next week but who knows at this point. My only goal now is that they don't cancel my order. :furious3:

All indications point towards 12/17/10 as the earliest ship date now.

They canceled my order today. Here is part of the email I just read:

Hello,
Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:
"Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 16.05 MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3-inch Free-Angle Touch Screen LCD and 14-42mm Hybrid Lens (Black)"
We've cancelled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion. Until recently, we had still hoped to obtain these item(s) for you.

It goes a bit from there, blah, blah, blah, sorry, etc. And all of this after I had replied in the affirmative to continue holding my pre-order when they asked me about a month ago. I originally pre-ordered on Sept. 23. That Canon 60D with the kit lens for $1299.00 and in stock at my local BestBuy is looking awfully tempting right now.

Could it be possible that Amazon just abandoned Panasonic as a supplier for these cameras? Panny has been a headache for them every time. Maybe Amazon just said "enough is enough" we are done with you? It wouldn't be the first time. Best Buy seems to have shut them out when it comes to most of these types of cameras. Maybe Amazon just did as well. The GH2 might become one of the hardest to find cameras anywhere now.

I am thinking about the Canon 60D myself it's definitely a good deal but than again when you compare it to the GH2 they are so far apart, we may just have to wait and be patient at this point. I sold my gear for the GH2 so I have no gear, I just hate missing shooting time.

If you ask me about Panasonic distribution in US or their PR departments around the world, they are terrible.
In Russia they are famous by having bunnies on main forums posting fake user reviews. As I know they are proud about this idea.

For me going back and forth reading this pre-order thread and the one on DP Review, will not make the GH2 ship any quicker. I guess I need to take a break. Even though I want to use it on important projects especially one this weekend, I'm not going to allow myself to worry too much. Now if they were to release it after Christmas, that's a different story. I was also expecting the camera to not get released in the US smoothly so that helps. It would be worse if I was 100% certain it was going to be released in November but again, it's a good thing I never was.

Ok, read many reviews and watched many vids on the 60D...nice camera of course but here are the reasons why I'm going to take a chill pill and wait for the GH2 even if it isn't out until next spring:

TelelCrop Feature: That seems very cool to me, an amateur who doesn't do this for money.
Live HDMI Out: That's cool too and hoping it will turn out to be 4:2:2 uncompressed though I doubt I'd buy a recorder for $1000 just for that
1080 60i: I like that as I'm assuming that I would be able to mix slow-mo 1080 60i into a 1080 24p timeline somehow...or?
Recording Length: I seem to remember the 60D had a pretty short video recording length.

Oh well, I'm better now. I'll just have to continue building DIY stuff to go with my GH2 and keep ordering cheap lenses and adapters off of ebay.

It seems Panny can make only a dozen cameras per day. It could be that their entire production line is based on a tiny sweatshop in china with one employee. The big trouble in production could imply the only employee took a long vacation... without Panny CEO's approval.

That's not nice.

The only site that offered a release date when the GH2 was first announced was dcresource.com. They said “The Panasonic LUMIX GH2 will be available in black and silver models in early December”. Maybe they were right all along? Maybe the GH2 was never supposed to ship in November. Maybe Amazon is the one that got the date wrong?

The press release from Panasonic below indicates that they intended it to ship in December all along. Maybe we will see the GH2's start shipping next week? Just in time for Amazon to cancel all of the pre-orders!

Ships in December in three kits: body only for $899, with the 14-42 mm IS lens for $999, or with the designed-for-video 14-140 mm IS lens for $1499
