GH2 official discussion thread

Well my Japanese GH2 came in this evening and I've only had a chance to test it with the kit lens indoors. Only tried the 24p cine mode since that's the only mode that really interests me. First impressions is that it's about as good as the GH13, better (smoother) sharpening maybe gives it a bit of an edge and of course no worries about the 24p bug. The few still pics I took were wonderful, it's an excellent sensor, but it still shows that even Panasonic has a ways to go before they can get a video frame to look as good as a 1920x1080 downsampled still pic. Reduce both to 1280x720 and it gets much closer. I posted some mundane frame grabs at:

most were taken at ISO 320 around f/4.3 if I recall. Hope to take the thing out this weekend and give it a real workout. Menus get easier to work with after a while

Have fun with your new baby!!!

We just made small research using resolution chart (we'll need to use better one later) and normal and tele extender modes.
Tele extender mode look exceptionally well.
In normal mode it looks like resolution is better then on GH1 and moire is much less.
But this is initial impressions.
We need to make more tests using better resolution chart.

looking forward to the results of the tele extender mode tests :)

Hi Richtrav, have fun with the new toy.

As I understand you most likely will use only 24p, but if you will have time to play around ,
we definitely would like to know how the 720p60 17mbps handles under extreme conditions (pan with grass or trees), is it the same as GH1 ? Does it brake down ?
If you have StreemParser maybe you can check if there are B frames in the stream.

Thanks

GH2 review written in Korean. mainly focused on photo performance.

- awesome AF speed
- amazing AF from 14-140 for video
- closer to film color tone than D7000, 60D, K-5, A55.... just look at those images from 20mm pancake!!!
- touchscreen LCD is fun
- FPN at ISO 8000
- highly recommend GH2

Exactly. If you study the icons and learn the functions then there really is nothing but a tiny inconvenience if you can't read Japanese. However, I think we are all hoping that there will be a way in to the firmware for our exceptionally talent colleagues from DVXUser... and not just for language reasons. In the meantime, reading (to the best of my limited ability) the Japanese GH2 manual is keeping me busy enough.

I know absolutely no Japanese but you get the hang of the menus after a while. And Panasonic gives you clues; for instance, if you want to change film "modes" they're all named in Japanese, but when you go back to the main screen it will say NOS or SMO or VIB etc inside the film icon so you know which mode you're in.
