How do you guys use the GH2 files? The mts files do not import into FCP7 - do you guys use a converter prior to importing it?

If so, which software would you recommend for Mac/FCP7?

Just used Log & Transfer, seems to have worked well.

You can not import the 'naked' MTS files, you must use "log & Transfer". I think you have to also have the AVCHD hierarchy intact... it has been a while... There are 'rewrapper' tools to convert to a MOV file format... but I've not used those at all.

This is the one thing that really bugs me with FCP, and the reason I've since switched to Premiere Pro. Being able to just drag and drop the original MTS files into a project without jumping through hoops it's a serious asset.

But editing in an interframe codec isn't so great. When I exit with premiere i still transcode intraframe.

That's because they were all busy with FCP X... and no one was available to make a simple 'importer' function that dealt with the MTS file... as if that format was so arcane as to be impenetrable by lowly mortals...

I mean... VLC can play MTS files 'directly' as well... damn those 'free software' widgets...

I read a post some time ago by Barry Green which basically said that Panasonic's announced that they're going to make a quicktime plug-in component for Macs, which they're calling the "MTS Importer". And that, from what he saw of a demo version, it makes AVCCAM or NXCAM or AVCHD shooting completely native to FCP -- and not just FCP, but every video app on the Mac. Supposed to be available sometime this summer.

If log and tranfer doesn't work, I like MPEG Streamclip, because it's free. Clipwrap works very well, but you have to pay for it

Nick can you describe how to use mpeg streamclips to convert mts files please. From what I know mpeg stream clip does not recognize the mts files I try the clip wrap combination with no success

I'm sorry - my bad. MPEG Streamclip doesn't handle .mts files (as you've just discovered). Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.

What happened when you tried Clipwrap? That ought to work - I just tried it - dragged the .mts file into Clipwrap, converted to ProRes422, no problem

Other alternatives:

Voltaic by Shedworx works well but slowly; Toast will convert .nts to DVD, which can then be extracted by Toast to Quicktime (but it takes ages, and is a pain)

I use clipwrap twice, once to create a backup rewrapped H.264 file, again to transcode to ProRes. It's boss.
