GH2 GH2 Lens Suggestion for Shallow Depth of Field DOF

I have an old manual Yashica 50 mm F/1.4 Very nice lens on my GF1. You can find it at very reasonable prices on the net.

Keep in mind that all these lens become 100 mm and for my taste it's very difficult use them without a tripod

Bye

I have a Nikkor 50 1.4 and I love it, but it requires a tripod or you get too much jello. I have a Vivitar 28mm F 2.0, which isn't that sharp but has a nice vintage feel if you're into that (which I am). I love the Panny 20mm--super useful. It's often my walkaround lens. It doesn't produce images with that old glass feel, but many people don't like that anyway. Finally, I have the Olympus 14-54 2.8-3.5 MII. It's very sharp and has a useful throw. At 2.8 it has a fairly shallow DOF. I'm unhappy with the clatter it makes however (I often use an onboard mic, which is necessary for my kind of work). I do wish it had OIS. Thinking of getting the Panny 14-50 as a replacement--though it is heavier and has some build quality issues.

stick with the Lumix 20mm f1.7, you won't regret it. however, as someone else noted, if you want shallow dof (f1.7) while shooting video, you WILL need an ND filter to bring exposure down to correct levels while keeping the aperture wide open. i recommend the FaderND with a circular rubber lens hood (helps prevent flares/ghosting).

the big downside to this lens is that you won't really be able to pull focus. the manual focus ring is purely electronic and there is an annoying delay between twisting the ring and the lens actually focusing...so much so that you won't be able to pull focus in real time. if you need to do a lot of focus pulling you'll be better off with an old manual prime lens like the Canon FDs.
