GH2 in stock thread

I called PD today about the GH2 orders from early January and they said the expected shipment on March 15th is now postponed to unknown date... I understand the earthquake sucks, but aren't they lying?

Shouldn't those cameras have been already built in China and been in transit to the US when the earthquake hit...

Anybody else getting this from PD?

I was wondering myself if the earthquake was gonna stop the shipments of the Gh2.......................I hope not because they are already slow enough at that rate we will never get it

For God's sake. What the heck is this?

God if you guys need one that bad i`ll sell you mine i got a few days ago. GH2 14-140 kit, extra panny battery and a camera bag. 2k.

FWIW, the question of the impact of the earthquake on GH2 production has been addressed partially through my questioning in this thread: and Barry linked to an article that has some details. One quote:

[...]"as the company officially informs us, their factories located in the area worst hit by the earthquake and tsunami are the AVC Networks Company Fukushima Factory (manufacturing digital cameras), AVC Networks Company Sendai Factory (manufacturing optical pickups), Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. Koriyama Factory (manufacturing electronic materials)"[...]

As can be seen, the factories responsible for manufacturing digital cameras and optical pickups are among the worst hit. That clearly indicates there's going to be impact on this side of the business, as the next quote indicates:

[...]"As expected, Panasonic has refrained from providing any estimates as to effects the earthquake will have on its 2011 business year, but we're afraid that, much in the same way as the rest of Japanese economy, Panasonic will also suffer some losses following this disaster."[...]

So frankly, it looks like the shortages far from being resolved, will be impacted indefinitely as of this year. I would not count too much on abundant production and quick availability.

Anyhow, that's secondary to the real issue, and that is the human dimension of this tragedy. The cameras are only gear - human lives are irreplaceable. We should concentrate on that, and frankly, in that scale, the camera availability is trivial in comparison. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the people of Japan as well as Panasonic employees.

The quake is going to impact all kinds of products and their distribution. My day job industry's news site has been talking about it for days already. It isn't necessarily because any finished product may have been coming from that area or from Japan, but possibly components used in the finished product were produced there or elsewhere in Japan. In many cases China or the US or other countries are just assembly points for products, putting together all the parts and pieces built from everywhere around the world.

Well the USA version of the Gh2 is made in china so it won't be affected that much. The real problem is Panasonic Direct ignoring orders and shipping products to retailers only.

If product is assembled in China it do not mean that all parts are produced in China :-)

So, something above us do not want GH2 to be widely present.
problems with japanese production lines just started, they'll be worse in next few weeks due to energy and transport problems, and most probably it'll require 6-9 months to be back to normal life.

Where's My Stuff?

Where's My Stuff?

I know that Amazon fully expected to have units to ship BY today. Mine had an expected delivery by 3/16 and I havent heard a thing. I'm sure that the tragedy in Japan has had an impact on distribution, even on items that are in the pipeline.

I ordered my GH2 a week and a half ago and I still didn't recieve anything.....I already payed for it I just want to know if it will take months for a camera to come because if so I would rather just cancel it

It already took months without a diaster.

Yea but the place I ordered it from was getting a couple in every week to 2 weeks.....The guy told me it would come in this week. I still haven't heard anything yet

Wow. That sucks. I guess I got mine on a fluke three weeks ago. I went onto Amazon and Wolfe's Camera shop had one left in stock on there with the 14-42 kit lens for $1,100. I jumped on it faster than greased lightning! Been loving every minute of it ever since. I guess its true what they say... "Timing is everything".

So, I was looking at Abel on my phone and it said that there were 11,000 in stock. Took a screen grab because five minutes later, on my computer, that had changed to "Contact Sales for availability".

I just emailed them. I'll let you know what I hear.

Edit: so, the attachment doesn't show up as large as the actual screenshot. But it says

Stock:

11000 in stock
Back ordering is available on this item, usually shipping within 2-4 weeks (subject to availability). Order the quantity you require and the amount not in stock will be back ordered.

I don't care about GH2 pre-order anymore...

My prayer for the people in Japan...

I hope people keep demand up and keep Panasonic on backorder until they fill every last order as long as it takes for them to rebuild...

I am encouraged that in the midst of a nuclear power plant fire this morning, the Japanese market is rallying 6% as if they're saying, we're stronger people than whatever comes our way- we've had enough, we'll keep fighting back and were not going down financially anymore either...

That's encouraging, and I hope people support Panasonic by buying some of their gear to support their economy, as well as prayer and humanitarian donations also.
