GH2 HDMI captured footage

Been playing with this for the last hour. Not sure if it has been summarized in this thread yet or not, but the live HDMI monitoring is definitely interlaced while recording and while not, regardless of recording mode. "HDMI Mode" refers to playback ONLY. Really an unfortunate cripple.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Well, it really is quite crazy to think it would have that capability, I guess. They don't want to intrude onto AF100 territory.

Though they'd be the most awesome company in the world if they said, "Yeah, what the heck." :D

But if we can get this GH2 hacked with higher bitrates....

Well, if a hack turns out to be possible, I would suspect live progressive out would also be like flipping a switch.

But that's no suprise is it? What camera do you know of sends a progressive image over HDMI? As far as I know they are all interlaced. So to use the term "crippled" is a bit much I think.

I really don't understand what the problem is with the signal being interlaced. Can't we just de-interlace in post??

I know everyone is batty for 1080p, but has anyone tried 720p60 mode? Does it affect the HDMI signal out? If it is like most "consumer" HDMI ports, it will limit itself to 1080/60i and 720/60p.

Personally, I'd be super happy with mixing 720/60p HDMI recorded for slow mo, and 1080/24p GH2 AVCHD....

I'm interested in this as well.. I've thought of getting a gh2 (if one could ever be found) to use as an A/B camera with an HVX. Most of what I shoot is 720p60 and edited with a pre-intel mac G5 (which doesn't play nicely with AVCHD, if at all). I'd like to find out if HDMI capture [DVCPROHD 720P] from a gh2 is even possible, but most of the people on these forums are caught up in live capture. Is it possible to use a gh2 to record 720p onto a SD card, and capture HDMI out (with an intensity blackmagic card) cleanly?

my head hurts..

hi, anybody know why my gh2 hdmi can not output on720p what is the problem
i set my camera on 720p but it change to 1080i when i plug my hdmi to marshal monitor
thanks

This is normal. The GH2 only sends a 1080 60i picture through the HDMI. 720P is automatically disabled when you plug anything into the HDMI port.

Plugging anything into the HDMI port causes you to lose many functions:
1) You can't use 720p mode anymore, it always forces itself into 1080
2) You can't use the Extended TeleConverter (ETC) anymore
3) You can't use magnified focus assist either.

There are probably other things I can't remember right now, but at least those three things happen when using the HDMI.

HI mr ralph & mr barry thank u very much for your info. :( my marshal monitor is uselles so i only can use 24p format.and if i want do slowmotion i have to unplug hdmi monitor
