GH2 Book

I read the book cover to cover last night and it is very well written but it has a few mistake. The authors also have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to video. This book should have been stricitly stills. For stills it is worth the money. Absolutely not for video.

I will write a full review on the Amazon page later tonight.

Why do people need a whole book on a camera like the GH2? Part of its charm is the ease of use. The most complex part for many might be applying a hack if they choose to. And even after is a no brainer.

I can name quite a few settings(Constant Preview, Shutter Speed Affect, direct focus area, focus priority...etc) on the camera that you probably don't know what they actually do. The people who wrote this book obviously didn't know what they do because they stated that it simply can't be done with no mention of the settings.

Which is exactly what I figured just from the description of the book and author bios - and that's what I predicted in my previous post. But I'm still interested in your review, because your perspective is likely much closer to the average dvx user interested in the GH2.

I think a paper explaining this settings as well as the overall settings should suffice. Kind of like a sticky.

I can help you. It's more efficient to cover it in stages, starting with Issues, Problems & Solutions and then adding chapters with lesser urgency later. That would help you deal with the shelf-life/redundancy/obsolescence conundrum. Besides, whetever you do on a GH2 will likely be the template for the 'updated' version anyway. Keeping your book modular gives your effort much longer shelf life.
You heard it here from the EPSS evangelist ;)

If I were to do it, that's the way I would do it. But that's a massive undertaking, and with such short production lives on the consumer side, I don't know that it would be worth it. The pro cameras stick around for three years or so, giving enough shelf life to recover the investment of time and money that goes into publishing one of these books. The consumer side seems to last only about a year before the product's done and the next one's on its way. That makes it a whole different economic formula to make it worthwhile. I'll look into it, but with the number of projects on my slate I don't know that this one can happen. Thanks for all the interest though!

Hopefully the GH3 is around the corner and of course it has to be 4K RAW, 'cause that's the future, now! For the same price as the GH2 of course. LOL!

I was going to respond to this, but I think I'll start a new thread instead, because I'm actually interested in what other people have to say :)

I guess in theory it could be possible. It would be the most awesome camera ever! Me thinks....

Most of the new things that I want to go over deal with Photos and inexpensive Astrophotography. The book actually has a whole section dedicated to astrophotography. They have a tremendous picture of the moon. However, I looked up the telescopes they recommend and they are $2300 and $1000. I can get a similar picture of the moon and everything else in space with my trusty $300 scope.

I know that not everyone likes astronomy. However, some of the pictures and footage I have already will blow you away. It will only get better when my EQ mount gets here tomorrow.

Nice review! Though perhaps a bit too kind, considering. I'd give it 3 stars. Also, I think Amazon left off the url.
