Barry- is there any chance of you doing a GH2 book? Everyone agrees that the instruction manual is horrible!

Thanks

Please make book. I will make deposit now. Manuel difficult and panasonic don't have it I'm my language. I will buy.

I would buy it right away myself, but something tells me it's not going to happen. But in this case I hope I'm wrong.

If the book went into enough detail about the fine points of the camera--the film modes and the effect of NR, Saturation, and Contrast on each mode at various ISOs, for example--I would buy it immediately.

If I were to do it, that's the way I would do it. But that's a massive undertaking, and with such short production lives on the consumer side, I don't know that it would be worth it. The pro cameras stick around for three years or so, giving enough shelf life to recover the investment of time and money that goes into publishing one of these books. The consumer side seems to last only about a year before the product's done and the next one's on its way. That makes it a whole different economic formula to make it worthwhile. I'll look into it, but with the number of projects on my slate I don't know that this one can happen. Thanks for all the interest though!

How about a book covering GH1, GH2, GF1, and AF100? The first chapters can cover the commonalities between them; the latter chapters can cover the individual cams and maybe the hack. What's good about this is that it's easier to revise in future editions and there's room for evolution. Plus a bigger market!

That would be the way to do it, although the AF100 Book is already done and shipping and the GH1/GH2 have zero in common with the AF100 other than the lens mount, so that part doesn't make sense...

I just ordered it. I will let you know whether it is worth it or not. Unless there are copyright laws against reviewing a review book? Anyone know what the laws are around commenting about using someone else's work in comments about that work?

There is a specific exemption in copyright law for reviewing - designed precisely for this situation! So you can quote from the book for the purpose of reviewing or commenting (there are other exceptions where you can quote too, like satire etc.).

I'm interested in your review! Thanks!

Btw. looking at that Amazon link, I suspect that it's focused more on the photography aspect of the GH2, judging by the blurb and who the authors are... and if so, it's usefulness is pretty darn limited. The eoshd link book by Andrew Reid looks like what we really want!

Videos are just a series of stills in my opinion. What I want to see is if they have discovered any hidden features that I haven't already. I have a whole lot of new features that I discovered this past weekend. I need to do another video to explain them though.

A traditional book would be nice, but I would pay for an eBook or even a direct download. That's how you get around the quick turnaround for consumer items. That said, there is no denying that such a book requires tremendous time & effort with uncertain rewards.
