GH17 Lenin hackers sound out!!

I just fired up the calculator on a clip I have here that is at a 42K rate for 2:31 minutes. Total file size is 770mb. I come up with ....if that rate was sustained for an hour straight, it would exceed 16gb by at least one if not two gig. So I wouldn't believe the cam, just plan on switching out at least every 45 minutes of footage.

Class 10 really doesn't mean anything. that's just a marketing ploy by the card makers. It's the read/write speed listed that is the important part. for example, the transcend class10, is really only a class 6, and barely. it's read/write speed has been measured at around 12 to 20Mb/sec. Class 10 will have a read/write speed of 30Mb/second.
glad your card is working for you.

So many things not accurate with what you said.

The only thing that has me a little baffled right now is the amount of record time it say I have left.

And when you actually look at the footage shot is actually half of what it shows on camera. My 16g shows 2 hours of recording time and it actually shoots 1 hour. And I actually have it hacked t0 32mbps.

Good to know. Thanks. Apparently my camera is now a liar. lol

I was wondering why mine, hacked to 40Mbps, said it had almost an hour left on my 8GB card...

Did anyone else notice that the remaining time sort of jumps all over the place? Like thoughout the recording it seems to go faster and then slower at times.

I just did the new hack today!!
Easier than I thought it would be.

Hack noobs:
Remember to have all three up top checked in Ptool:
x Version increment
x Prevent version compare
x New body

Then double-click "Version increment" at very top and change the value from 1 to 10.

I didn't do the Version Increment value change the first time/didn't work/had to redo it.
Anyone know if "New body" should be checked every time you try a reinstall or just the first time?

There's no reason not to keep the first three patches checked, and Version Increment set to 10. That will insure that the hack works properly on any type of GH1, both hacked and unhacked.

Yes it does. It means that the card is capable of sustaining a minimum write speed of 10 megabytes per second.

that's just a marketing ploy by the card makers.
No, it's an organized standard adopted by the SD Card Association. Class 2 = 2 megabytes per second minimum sustained write speed. Class 4 = 4 megabytes, Class 6 = 6 megabytes, Class 10 = 10 megabytes. There's a very definite meaning to it.

for example, the transcend class10, is really only a class 6, and barely.
This should not be the case. Read speed is not clocked, but write speed is, and if a card bears the "Class 10" logo on it, it is supposed to maintain a minimum 10 megabytes (80 megabits) write speed.

Class 10 will have a read/write speed of 30Mb/second.
I don't know where these numbers came from. "b" = bits, "B" = Bytes. If you're saying 30Mb, that would equate to about Class 4 speed (4 megabytes, 32 megabits). Class 10 should sustain at least 80 megabits/10 megabytes, or it can't have the Class 10 designation on it.

Here's my first edited footage using my newly hacked (previously unhackable) GH1(7)!

Straight out of camera:

Graded in AE with DV REBEL Tookit:

This was REALLY quickly done. Writing, filming and editing in about an hour....

Am really liking how the camera is performing now...

Would you guys mind giving this test a shot? I'm wondering if the 2011 Lenin GH17s are not quite as robust as the older ones. This chart locks up my camera EVERY time.

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?251044-Test-Your-GH17-Lenin-With-This!

This is a quite "stressful" test and most GH13 cameras cannot "survive" it as well. So don't panic. It was made only to try to find the most reliable PTool settings. If camera survives it, the patch must be very safe. Of course, everything depends on shutter speed, brightness of the picture, tripod, moving the camera...

Thank you-that helped a lot.
Edit; I found the answers that I was looking for in another thread as well.

Thanks barry green for explaining the classes of sd's

We all need to be educated in this crazy world of technology
