gh13 vs gh2

Looking at GH2 footage my preliminary conclusion is this:

Under normal conditions - GH2.
In high detailed scenes and fast movement - GH1 with 40-50Mbit bitrate.
In low light - GH2 always.

Hey Vitaliy, thanks for the feedback.

But is any sort of mud expected in these fast movements scenes on the GH2?

I might as well get one, monitoring being the strongest point for me. Body only option makes it perfect to couple with a nice 4/3 Olympus zoom.

The only way to know will be to do careful side-by-side comparisons under identical conditions.

I thought that my Canon 5D2 and Panasonic TM700 were great untill I did the triple side-by-side with my hacked GH1 "C" settings...bye bye Canon...bye bye TM700 (especially!).

I will have access to a GH2 as soon as my friend's shop gets stock...will do the test and make up my mind based on real world evaluation.

I find it interesting that people are planning what they are going to do based on a couple clips from some prototype cameras.

Come on folks, hold your horses. We'll see what we get when the camera actually comes out for sale.

Until then, we have NO real idea what we are going to get.

It was even mentioned that the prototypes on display at Photokina had issues with not being complete.

People talking all tough about staying with their GH1s because the GH2 isn't up to their "idea" of what it should be is only going to make Panny say "why bother?"..

I DO recall that not too long ago we were saying that we would be absolutely happy with the GH1 if it had live monitoring, adjustable audio, and native 24P (not to mention a higher bitrate)

Well, we got our wish - to an extent. Not perfect, but I'm going to jump on a GH2 as soon as I can afford it and shoot with BOTH my Gh1 and Gh2 (makes no sense to dump my old cam for the new one).

Yes, exactly! Since at least May 2009:

I agree. I have a GH2 on the pre-order/waiting lists at Amazon & B&H. I'll keep my hacked GH1 as a B-cam, a back-up cam & for scenes which require high bitrates. Once the AF100 is available for rent in my town, I look forward to using it on client projects, too.

I hope the GH2 (and the AF100!) will eventually be hacked, but in the meantime the above combination will be great.

i want a gh2 and an af100. that damn 14-140 is just making it hard for me to have both :(
I could actually buy a 14-140 in japan for cheap. its so cheap it comes with a free gh1 body :P (yes gh1 with kit is worth the same as the lens alone in japan)

I'm wondering if the reason Panasonic shuttered the firmware is the battery hack, if it just is about the money.. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to hack the battery, and if the GH2 is hackable maybe we should be careful to stick to IQ issues.

Maybe you've got a point in that.

I Have a GH13, my plan is buy a GH2 body only and the next year the Af100, keep the GH13 for family shots or for most extreme shots!

Hello everyone, I went follow this forum for a long time, you really guys are my day by day gh1 Bible. So I felt to write my first time reply impulsed by this question. So at the moment are enough reasons to buy a GH2 (Hdmi-sensor), BTW a lot of people here want to keep the Gh1 as a B camera, smarter decision, because putting away the solution of higher bit rates and risk shots use for the Gh13, finally you can be one step beyond using both cameras side by side for a video HDR effect.

Best!

Would anyone be interested in trading a new GH2 body for 2 gh1(3) bodies with 2 extra batteries? I just pre-ordered a af-100 and would maybe like a GH2 for a b-cam. Let me know if anyone would be interested...

am i reading this correctly? if i give you a gh2 body, you'll give me two gh1(3) bodies and two extra batteries? given the value of a gh1(3), that sounds like a bad trade for you.

Yeah, I guess I'm just going to buy a second af-100 instead and keep the gh1's for personal use. I may sell one body down the line...

I've been a proud owner of a GH13 for about 3 months and love it, especially since I can set up shots for the stuff I do. However, if the Banding/FPN is fixed in the GH2, then that alone makes me want one. I've worked around that issue, but having the luxury of being able to underexpose 1-2 stops (for mood) without having streaks across talent's face would be great. Plus, Native 24p out of the box, Cinema Film Mode, B Frames within properly implemented codec, independent RGB channels, better LCD. I love the high bitrate of GH13, but those features are enticing.

Exactly my thought as well. I love my GH13 but some of the GH2 features are really tempting. I specially like the idea of touch focusing. I've used it on my bros G2 and it works great.
