gh13 vs gh2

i know its the burning question in most people's mind. we don't have real comparable footage from the gh2 yet. but given what we're told right now, which do you guys think will perform better?

word so far is that HDMI is crippled in GH2 (frame skips etc) deliberately to prevent recording to 3rd party recorder. no confirmation on this yet to my knowledge.

My bet is gh13 will still reign. Anyone putting down money?

Looking at GH2 footage my preliminary conclusion is this:

Under normal conditions - GH2.
In high detailed scenes and fast movement - GH1 with 40-50Mbit bitrate.
In low light - GH2 always.

This is what has me excited about the GH2. For my purposes, it'll be a lot more useful...but I shoot a lote more in low light than I do fast moving scenes or swaying jungles.

I'll trade you a used GH13, and a brand new non-hackable GH1 (just got a 2nd one this week), for two brand new GH2's...and two extra batteries. ;)

Thanks, but I have another idea... I'm going to buy a AF100 and a GH2. Both brand new from an authorized reseller.

My advice, Keep the GH13 and return the GH1 (shouldn't be a problem, you just got it this week), and then buy a GH2.

How much footage have you seen vitali?

I have heard it is much improved from the original GH1 but that there are still artifacts / mud in high detail scenes and that the improvement was not as much as they would have hoped for. So as for now, my bet is still that the GH1 hacked footage will be better, but I may get a GH2 for low light close ups as my 3rd cam in three camera shoots.

My question is: Can the GH2 be hacked? if not...The GH1 will have more value. Everyone is still trying to get their hands on a gh1. I think the GH1 still has allot of "hack-play" in it and that could still cause the GH1 to outperform any of its competitors.

I might trade my gh13 for a gh2 depending on the situation
i find the use of the touch focus amazingly useful

Its funny that this technology is from the HMC40. I have the HMC40 and can understand using it for the "Video Camera" now for the HDSLR I think the follow focus is still the best technology thus far to date. I cant really imagine the touch focus really being that big of a factor for the GH1. Ive had my HMC40 for 1 year now and dont think its that big of a factor

Hmmm. I am betting GH2 will have great image quality and might do ok on high detail and fast movement...maybe not quite as good as GH13...BUT let's remember that many of us shot on the GH1 for nearly a year before the hack, and it worked pretty damn well. If I get a GH2 (which I likely will) I will be keeping my GH13 around so I have the flexibility of two cameras.

That's my plan as well--AF100 and GH2 as second cam. Current hacked GH1 as 3rd cam.
