Really the only way to get one right now is to watch the Panasonic site like a hawk and try to slip an order in whenever they go "in stock". My prediction is, even though the web site says backordered until September, they'll get small batches in, ignore the pre-order people like they have before, and just put them online for sale for an hour or two. That's what happened on June 17 and I snagged one while it showed "in stock" for an hour. Got it a day and a half later.
In addition, you can keep checking the half dozen sites who are expecting stock. I've made a list and here are the pages I always check. I don't want a second camera: I've just been checking a few times a day for the benefit of the group here. Anyway, here are the places I check:
Panasonic
Adorama
J&R
Amazon
Norman Camera
Vann's
B&H
Good luck.
Mike
Sorry, not sure what you mean exactly - May 5-Jun 24; 30 days? Anyway, mine changed to Shipped early afternoon today...final confirmation for me is when UPS changes from "Billing Info" to a true tracking status (when the shipment is in their hands). Hopefully see that later today.
I did get an email saying it's been xx days - "should we cancel this order" - I simply responded that they should keep it going, and that's what happened. Hope that helps...

import httplib,time,sys
conn = httplib.HTTPConnection('www.bhphotovideo.com')
inStock = False
while not inStock:
print "Checking stock...",
conn.request("GET","/c/product/608940-REG/Panasonic_DMC_GH1K_Lumix_DMC_GH1_Digital_Camera.html")
req = conn.getresponse()
response = req.read()
try:
inStock = response.split('class="value inStock"')[1].split(">")[1].split("<")[0]
if inStock:
while True:
print "OH NOES B&H in STOCK!"
time.sleep(1)

I'm a 3D TD at work and decided I'm tired of refreshing B&H. Although it really ends up hurting my chances, I made a python script for everyone else in the same situation. ...
I still have my order in with Panasonic Direct and called today to check on it. They are calling me back with status and said that some are "trickling" in. Also she said my order was some time ago so there should be some status on it by now.
So I may have one up for sale unless they call me back and tell me the camera is not coming for a while... in which case I will probably cancel the order.

Just copy this...
into a file names something like 'bh_gh1_alert.py' and if you have python 2.5+ (linux and mac people should have it by default) then you can nerd out your frustration via console app!Code:import httplib,time,sys conn = httplib.HTTPConnection('www.bhphotovideo.com') inStock = False while not inStock: print "Checking stock...", conn.request("GET","/c/product/608940-REG/Panasonic_DMC_GH1K_Lumix_DMC_GH1_Digital_Camera.html") req = conn.getresponse() response = req.read() try: inStock = response.split('class="value inStock"')[1].split(">")[1].split("<")[0] if inStock: while True: print "OH NOES B&H in STOCK!" time.sleep(1) except IndexError, e: print "Backordered" time.sleep(60)
It runs every minute and checks the gh1 page for a css class used by the site for styling the 'in stock' items for that page... If it doesn't have it it bails and will try again. If it see the correct tags it will flood you console window.
