GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

DO NOT USE Python 3K. v3 and v2 aren't compatible, like at all.

Install python 2.6.* and try again, always run from terminal while debugging: so no double clicking on the desktop/whereever. You env make be broke. Did you try on ubuntu?

Got it working. Installed 2.6.2 and had it update the shell during install. Without updating the shell it wouldn't work. Thanks!

Is there a way to test the email and SMS to make sure it works?

NICE, congrats!! He really went out of his way to help you on this one. Think that seller earned your highest praise with your feedback once you get the camera.

Was the $160 from Ebay immediately deposited into your Paypal account? Other merchants you will have to wait 60 days in case you return it they'll cancel the cashback.

J&R has the best percentage as far as a trusted camera merchant goes. Been that way a long time. I bought a Nikon 24-70 2.8 lens just before the big Nikon price increase. Paid $1200 after cashback from J&R at the time. After I got done with it I sold it back out for >1600. I'm going to miss this cashback thing when it's gone.

So the seller was awesome to work with, he let me re-purchase the camera using bing and sure enough I saved 160 off the auction. Bringing my grand total after free express shipping to 1840. So, as far as I'm concerned that was totally worth it. Shipped tomorrow via express mail, (did i mention free express mail? I know I did I just think that was totally awesome) should arrive on friday.

Also used bing to buy the external mic through adorama.

Thanks again for that info wowubbzy. That made the hit I took much easier to bare.

I'm going to miss this cashback thing when it's gone.

Merchants come and go, eBay in particular...probably won't last forever (Though they do have their own 'eBay bucks' program now), but these programs have been around, and will be around, thank goodness! In addition to bing, check out fatwallet.com.

For example, J&R is 2% cashback on FatWallet. So likely J&R pays 3% (or more) of the transaction to FatWallet, in exchange for FatWallet referring you to J&R. FatWallet, in turn, turns around and gives you 2 of the 3%.

This is the same reason that if you are reading blogs, a lot of times the blog author might recommend a movie or book, link to it on Amazon, and ask you to buy through their links. When you buy through their links, they get a kickback for sending you over.

I don't know if this is a good sign but J&R has just called me a few minutes ago to process and charge my credit card. I know these folks are in billing but she says the GH1 should be shipping sometime today. Since I'm a pessimist. I'll see it when I believe it. For those who have J&R orders can you call and verify if there's any activity.

They just told me "still on backorder" - keep us posted... I upgraded to overnight shipping while I was at it.

FWIW I was told multiple times from J&R 'tomorrow' and 'next week'. Until you see a tracking number trust no one.

That's why I'm first a pessimist.. called my J&R rep directly and they said no cameras yet.. weird though.. I thought J&R wouldn't charge until cameras are in stock.. hmm..

According to shopatron my order is shipping today (this would be officially the SECOND time they have made this claim). Until I get a tracking number I'm still in doubt...

It's still early on the west cost... so we shall see.

Is there a way to test the email and SMS to make sure it works?

Goto to the script and change the code around...
Code:
   mailServer.close()

inStock = False
while not inStock:
to...
Code:
   mailServer.close()

print "Sending test SMS...",

If I can't get this camera by next month, I'm gonna start looking into Nikon D300s. Supposedly with video capability. I'm getting tired of this cat and mouse game while all the inventory goes to ebay sellers.

one seller with 5 cameras!?! From New Jersey, shouldn't be too hard for Panasonic to trace the serial number to the vendor...you would think.

It's like any new low supply, high demand product, Wii, PS3, etc.:cry:

What surprises me was that he listed B&H# and I assumed it was B&H part number. Very likely an employee of B&H? he probably was able to get a few when they had them last week. That would makes sense since he's in NJ and Bh is in NY. Very likely an employee.

Quite probable, however he also just invested near $8000 in equipment. I'm a firm believer in entrepreneurship so good luck to him. He probably will still be holding onto them when they are massly available at those prices. Not that I'd know anything on the subject nor have a scalped tickets to get through college.
