GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Your welcome. I just put a new kettle on. Panasonic Center in Sweden just called and said delivery has been delayed and it should come on tuesday, not tomorrow. I believe that when I have it in my hands.

Let's hope this is true then perhaps when the words, "Firmware update!!!!" finally reach the ears of those that should care, chorused by the pack of howling GH1 users, the surprise translates into action...and by 'action' I mean "better AVCHD implementation, live video out and 720p"...

HAHA! We are already asking for firmware updates even though the camera hasn't really come out yet (here at least). Thats one more thing to add onto the plates of those panasonic guys who underestimated the camera.

I am really starting to worry now and think that maybe I should have ordered with panasonic instead of J and R. I ordered with J and R though because they told me exactly what order number I was. I am around number 40 to preorder from them, and they believed they would have a shipment of 100 coming in and that I would be recieving one of those therefore. What I am afraid of, is what if panasonic wants to fill all of its pre-orders before shipping out to the other sellers? What if panny decides it can only send J and R 20 cameras for now?


Ughhhhhhhhhhh. lol. Dangit.

thats what seems to have happened to J&R.

i get that J&R was the first place offering pre-orders on the camera, but once
Panny started excepting them, I dont get why people would go else where
knowning the camera would be in high demand & most likely back ordered?
Its only logical to assume Panny would have the most stock, and get it first.
Its not like its cheaper from any other place...

Hmmm. I feel a bit stupid now... but the reason I did that was because I thought that J and R might actually have some already and was just waiting to release them. And the main reason I did it was because J and R was able to tell me what number I was. The panasonic lady was annoying on the phone to be honest.

Do you think I should cancel my order and then reorder from panasonic direct? Is it likely that panasonic will fill all of their preorders before sending any cams to other dealers? if so I am screwed. Damnit. I'm gonna call J and R tomorrow to see if there is any news.

When you call let the operator that gets your call flap their jaws for a bit then say you want to talk to a manager. This is the only way that panasonic will hear about people like us who pre-ordered BEFORE people at panasonic direct and are being left high and dry. Make sure to talk to a manager!! The guy I talked to actually started talking about some sort of 'illegality' of direct releasing product before the 'official release'...

I am new to this forum, but have been lurking for a while.

I ordered my GH1 in early April. Well I guess I committed to buy one and the dealer started contacting Panasonic about the camera. The dealer is Mike's Camera, the largest high-end dealer in Colorado. I am certainly #1 on their list. Once I pointed them to the fact that direct orders from Panasonic are now going out the door they are getting rather upset that the company is treating their dealer channel as second class. I would guess that if enough dealers scream Panasonic will realize that ticking off their dealers is not a great way to operate. They do get a larger margin on direct sales. But that is not worth convincing their dealers that dealers should sell the competitions' products instead. They already lost their largest nation-wide dealer, Circuit City. I hope they realize that they shouldn't help the rest go away.
 
Thanks for all the info, everyone. I called Adorama (I've had it on preorder from Amazon for some time) and they said that according to the latest they've received from Panasonic, they expect their shipment on Friday and expect to ship to customers the beginning of next week. They also said that they have not yet sold out their initial allotment.

So now I have it preordered from both Amazon and Adorama (taking a weeklong trip to CO beginning next Thursday and I would kill to have this before then). Any bets on the odds that I get stuck with them both?!?!
 
Oh, I forgot to mention -- my Amazon order shows that my expected delivery date is June 25 - July 14.
 
I just got a call from Shopatron. They just wanted me to know that the order I placed yesterday morning will likely go out on the 25th.

Oh well, three weeks isn't too bad.

Just out of curiosity, when did you place your order with Amazon?

FinalDesign, when did you place your order? Trying to gauge when mine would arrive based on your shipment date.
 
My amazon order from May 6th says delivery estimate June 2nd - June 23rd. I hope it doesn't change. I need it by the end of the month.
 
A little update on my end. Sent out an email to Panasonic yesterday to get status on my order with them. This is the response I got...

Don't know what to think...All I can do is wait I guess, but I'm heckler when it comes to waiting for stuff like this!

Now THAT's some serious inside information there... oh gawd make it stop. Deliver us from who the hell knows.
 
I just ordered yesterday at about 1:00pm PST and I got a similar response like Orchidthief's when I called them. The rep said he had no idea about any shipments and couldn't give me an estimated time.
