GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Since I had gotten my camera from Henry's in Canada, I canceled my order with Panasonic/Shopatron. They had originally told me they'd be getting them in the week of 7/6. I asked yesterday, out of curiosity, when they were now expecting them and the response was 'we're HOPING for mid-July'.

Totally unreal. I would have been screwed for a big vacation we're going on.

At this point vabvum, I wouldn't believe anything that any of these guys tell you (Panasonic/Shopatron). I honestly think they have no clue.

Ordered mine on Monday, June 21 when "in stock" was showing on the website.

Got the Panasonic direct receipt with "in stock" as others have.

My order status on the Panasonic direct order look up page still says "in stock"

Got a voicemail from Panasonic this morning - this is the transcript (my voicemails are automatically transcripted, so it's not my words or typing...LOL):

"hello this is sarah with panasonic calling in regards to your panasonic order XXX-XXXX calling to let you know that your order has been released but as of now the camra you've ordered is back ordered until early july if you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to give panasonic a call at 1(800) 405-0652 thank you have a wonderful day"

Interestingly enough, my brother just got a phone call, the camera he purchased on Monday will be released...and then they asked to verify shipping and billing address! Didn't say anything about backorder or anything. It was ordered this past Monday around 930am EST. We'll see when it arrives!

WTF! I ordered on June 5th and they told me they're hoping to get it in 2 weeks on the phone today

10:15am told that my order will ship tomorrow.

4:35pm received an 'order confirmation' call and was told I was misinformed and that it will ship July 15th.

7:15pm consumed copious alcohol.

I saw a third party seller by the user haizhou99 selling GH1 for $1490 on Amazon.com. I placed the order yesterday while it showed 2 in stock and disappeared after I placed the order. I assume another person snatched one also. But I'm getting suspicious since no one has this camera except him and the one that wants $2500. The camera became in stock again today from the same seller. My order from him has yet to ship but I still think it's BS. Amazon has A to Z guaranteed from fraud so I'm not that worry about loosing money. Any one of you here brave enough to order? I just registered with dvx just to post this.

I saw that too. It shows "JUST LAUNCHED" under the seller rating. Could be fraud, but if you go to the seller's store there's other items listed. Odd that it seems to be a person's user name rather than a store name. I'm staying away from that and keeping my orders with reputable businesses. Also, don't you need to get it from an real company to have a warranty?

Usually 3rd party seller's store name is the same as login. I cancelled the order since I just noticed he put it back in stock again. They were all gone yesterday, on the other hand he does have lots of other Panasonic items including G1 lenses.

After reading Newstead's post, I have to say everything is the same with my order, the only difference being that the person who called this morning did not mention July or backorder, only said the order would be released today.

After reading this thread daily, I'd have to say it's more of inconsistent customer service and that just like the 22nd, there will be another group who receive their cameras around the 15th of July and hopefully I'll be included. They just failed to mention that over the phone.

I got the same phone call today, and was told the camera is back ordered until mid-July. But hurray for my billing address being verified. As if I would have made a mistake or something. At this point, I think I'm more likely to get my June 6th Amazon pre-order.

Same thing here. I told her to cancel my order. I can't wait until mid-July. Figure I'll have better luck with B&H or a local camera shop.

I'm not sure I'd cancel so quickly as mid July is not all that far away at this point!

I did speak to someone yesterday and it was silly to hear that my order was "still in processing" and they were verifying my payment information. I think most ecommerce engines do this automatically.

I found it pointless to ask any other questions. At this late stage, I've been worn down by the dead silence and disappointment.

Congrats to those of you who have your cameras already!

I just got told that the shopatron people that told me it was shipping out on the 29th were wrong and that it's being released from backorder on the 29th, will ship out a day or so later, and will be in my greasy mits by the 7,8, or 9....but that panasonic also can extend the backorder if necessary....omfg.

I was one of the people who ordered from this guy. It reads to me from communications with him/her that he/she is a scam artist. When I asked about shipping two days after order he did not have it on hand but his AGENT did and he guaranteed 100% bla bla bla... sounded like broken up Nigerian scam english to me.

Given than Amazon was not able to ship any May 5th, May 6th or May 7th (my case) preorders, don't expect anything from Amazon unless they get a humongous shipment. Amazon stopped taking orders period and they have NO idea when they are getting them in. As soon as they supply me with any estimates I will post.
