GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Camera Kings is showing them in stock. Have never bought from them but saw it on another site:

In my desperate state for the GH-1, I checked out the website. It appears that it is a front for Broadway photo, which is has been sued by the state of Texas for bait and switch activities.

See links for more details: http://search.newyork.bbb.org/reports.aspx?id=68047

Camera Kings and Broadway photo are scammers, I'm almost sure of it. You have to be careful when it comes to buying camera gear. I almost bought from the cheapest source I could when I was looking for a DVX 5 years ago. After a bit more research I found out that a lot of smaller camera companies were scams.

Someone on these forums actually went to the address for one of the companies I almost bought from. They took a picture of their storefront and posted it. A boarded up building with no signs in a crappy neighborhood.

Check out sites like resellerratings.com they are a good resource for finding out about places.

If Amazon told you it would ship today, I would have far more faith in that than Panasonic! There are few companies who are better at fulfillment IMO. Sometimes Amazon will give you a shipping notification later in the day (or evening).

Perhaps you are right. When I told them my camera had not shipped as promised and they showed no availability customer service insisted with the following:

I'm sorry for any inconvenience you've experienced.

I can confirm that we still expect to ship your order by June 23, 2009. It should be delivered to you by June 24, 2009.

We'll send you an e-mail when your order is shipped. If you haven't received a shipment confirmation by June 24, 2009 please contact us using the following link.

I am cracking under the pressure.

That's interesting. When I talked with them today they said they had no idea when they would receive a shipment but that mine would be immediately sent out.

After having the conversation, my order status changed to reflect them not knowing when it would arrive. Also - I should mention I ordered from Amazon May 6th around noon.

Regarding my Direct Panasonic order made Monday morning- Previously, my order status was listed as "unavailable- calll Customer service. " It has now changed to "In stock" within the last hour.

So, even though no card charge yet, something has happened at least. Don't know if it means anything but for those waiting a change to "In Stock" may be a good sign.

Amazon not shipping GH1

Amazon not shipping GH1

Regardless of all the false guarantees from Amazon customer service that cam would ship I have also received an email indicating that Amazon was not able to procure the items I ordered. This is so ridiculous. I am not sure which is worse Panny's total cluelessness or Amazon's. From what I see here someone else got a similar e-mail that there was no camera yet customer service was still telling me that I would get my camera on the 24th. Had they told me two weeks ago that they did not have any I would have ordered from Panny and maybe have had a better chance. My trip is on the 4th and so far no cam.

I have been buying from Amazon since they were a book only outfit... they have definitely lost my complete loyalty with their scripted reply system to customer needs.

Hmmm - that's odd...so yesterday Amazon told you on the phone it would be shipping out that day, and today you received an email that it was unavailable? That's too bad.

I'm sure all the retailers are in the same boat - Panasonic is not giving them any information on when the cameras will be available. Just have to realize that nobody knows when these things are really going to start shipping (except for a select few at Panasonic of course).

My Monday morning order still says "status not available"

Apparently I missed the boat on the shipments that came in Monday.

I pre-ordered June 10th from Panasonic Direct

Called this morning, spoke to the kindest representative yet, but no official word or estimate on when it might ship. Frustrating.

Woke up to an email from Pana Direct saying that my order shipped!
I was very happy.
Then I looked closer...
It was just the spare battery.
Camera status listed as "In Stock" and not yet shipped.

I'm so glad I get to hold a battery in two days! I can't wait to post pictures of it to this group. From every angle, at every level of detail. I'll be the proud owner of an official GH1 battery! My day is made! Huzzah!

If I had pre-ordered sooner like so many ono this group and this had happened, I'd really be really frustrated. As it is, I'm just a noobie passenger on the Pana-Pain customer disservice comedy train, and I've yet to earn the right to complain.

OK, so a few people here in the States have received their GH1, and they got them from 1.) Panasonic Direct, and 2.) Harry's Pro Shop. Is that right? No shipments yet from Amazon, right?

Panasonic Direct says "This Item is Backordered."

Harry's Pro Shop is out of stock.

You can buy it from "Dream Kitty" via Amazon for $$2499.00.

This is crazy.

Well, I'm just off the phone with Panasonic Direct, after a 15 minute hold.

The gentleman I spoke to was very apologetic, profusely so. The poor guy has probably spent moat of his time this week apologizing for this GH-1 mess.

He said that the last shipment of cameras was entirely taken up by pre-orders, and that although he really could not officialy say it, Pana was caught off-guard by the intense volume of pre-orders and struggling to catch up to fill them.

He did state clearly that all cameras received on June 22 would be going out to those who pre-ordered.

He does not know when the next shipment will come in to the US.

He then told me that I could cancel my order anytime, and suggested googling for merchants who pre-ordered the camera and now have them or soon will have them in stock.

This was the first time I've contacted a customer service person with an actual personality at Pana Direct, and that was different. Not good news, but at least their were no random made up lies from this guy, like "your camera has already been shipped" that I got before.

I got the impression that it could be several weeks before the next order goes out.

Sigh.

How refreshing it must be to speak to someone at Panny who actually provides coherent, honest information (too bad it's bad news).

When I called this morning I spoke to a profoundly disinterested woman who kept yawning and alternated between confusion over why I was concerned about my order and various bizarre conjectures about why I hadn't received the order before settling on an outright lie about how someone had left a message for me regarding a mysterious problem with my credit card.

When I lost it and demanded to speak to a supervisor, she put me on hold and then came back to tell me the supervisor would have to call me back.

<sigh>

That's one of the reasons I ordered from Amazon, Adorama, and J&R. Plus I got no tax for California and the free shipping. Also, the Panasonic ordering website doesn't work with Safari. How could they not have their website work with one of the most popular browsers? Get with the program Panasonic!

Umm.... I ordered mine on Panasonic's web site with safari.... UPS delivering today....

I also used Safari to order through Panasonic Direct.

J.D. you ordered on June 9th? I ordered the 10th. Maybe all the pre-orders made on or before the 9th were shipped out? I'm trying to figure out where I am in the queue.

Who knows. I ordered from the panny website on the 3rd and I still haven't received any notice.

just got back from the phone from Panasonic Direct, probably waited 20 mins just to talk to some clueless woman. I ordered on Jun 15th, All I got is that they are back ordered and they have no idea when the next shipment is going to hit US! :/

Got my camera!
ordered June 9, through panny direct, arrived today. I never got an email saying it was shipping. I joined some panasonic customer club, Club Panasonic, so I have a user id so I checked online and told me it had shipped.

My first 10 minute impressions of the camera. very cool..... Its heavier than I thought it would be, the menus are AMAZINGLY clear and easy to scroll through, I think it is a very user friendly camera.
I thought it would come with a small SD card so I could take a few photos/movies, but it did not.
SO I will be off to purchase a mega SD card today.

JD

Also.... I shot a full length movie on the Red. I need one pickup exterior shot of a school building. I think I will shoot it on the GH 1 and see if anyone notices!!!!

Spoke to one of the higher ups in the Panasonic direct dept. Next shipment of new cameras are scheduled to be July 15th. :( They say they were not ready and had not anticipated the overwhelming response. Sounds like the when the HVX first came out..
