GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Also ordered from Panny Monday. Got a call verifying address and phone number. Girl said I would get my camera but of course did not supply a date. As so many others I am so sick of their mess that I did not even bother asking. Then this morning I got an email which reads:

In regards to your order number XXXXXXX, you placed on June 23rd, 2009 we are showing in our system that we currently do not have an estimated loading or delivery date yet. This indicates that the product is still on backorder. Unfortunately, we do not have a date yet as to when this will be available to be shipped to you.

here is an email from a Shopatron rep I received today regarding my June 4th order through Panasonic Direct.

Dear Sean,
Following our phone conversation earlier on today, I immediately called the manufacturer of your above mentionned order. She informed me that your order would not ship out before mid-July. If you want to wait for the order, that is fine: I'll leave it open and it'll ship out when it is ready. If you do not want to wait for the package, that is also fine: I cancel your order on your behalf.
Just let me know and I'll be happy to help!
Thanks and Kind Regards,
Maguelone

I really have been patient but in light of people ordering after June 4th getting a camera and now I have to wait until mid July to get my June 4th order? that is f*^ked.

complete bullshi*.

I was one of the people who ordered from this guy. It reads to me from communications with him/her that he/she is a scam artist. When I asked about shipping two days after order he did not have it on hand but his AGENT did and he guaranteed 100% bla bla bla... sounded like broken up Nigerian scam english to me.

I thought it had to be one of you guys here. I'm glad I canceled it. The name of his handle I believe is Asian, not sure if the scam guy using Asian name on purpose. Hopefully no harm has been done. I should probably report this to Amazon, they won't be too happy with a scammer selling on their site.

Hmmm, I got my GH1 within 4 days (Austria). There are dealers (Germany) they offer it since weeks. Black or red.

Crap I'm also June 4th from Shitatron.

This is the first time anything on my order from Panasonic Direct has changed. It now says Status: In Stock. Even though the item description still says backordered.

All,

This is my first post here. I had a very informative chat with a lady at Panasonic Direct yesterday. I ordered on June 10th and was told that my camera was going to ship on the 23rd. When it didn't ship I called them to find out what happened. The lady on the phone took the time to look throught the order list to see what order-date they had filled up to. It looked like most people who ordered on June 9th had their order filled, those of us from June 10th an onward were out of luck. The lady counted the orders before be and said that there were 6 orders prior to mine, although one of them was a large order for a retailer. I was also told the next shipmet was expected in mid-July which is consistent with other posts on this forum. I was not able to get any information on the size of that shipment however.

Since one of the pre-orders on the 10th was for a retailer I am **SPECULATING** that the retailers, such as Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc... are in the same situation as the rest of us. They placed their preorders too, but not as quickly as many of you; thus they are on the pre-order list just further down it. Unless the retailers get preferencial treatment they get their orders based on their place in the queue (it didn't sound like this was the case). In a normal release the retailers are probably some of the first pre-orders which would explain why camera's appear in the retail chain not long after release, but there were so many eager pre-orders that the retailers weren't quick enough and didn't make the list in time for the first shipments.

The lady also apologised profusely stating that they have been having a lot of problems filling orders for this camera as there were many more pre-orders than they anticipated. She seemed quite amazed at how long the order list was and seemed to indicate she had never seen anything like it. She was acutely aware that there were a lot of upset people and stated that as a sales person she was only authorized to take order information and answer questions related to orders. Data regarding shipments, and factory output capacity was not information she was authorized to see, and she apologized at the uncertainty this caused.

I am also guessing that Panasonic has a limited ability to produce these cameras and it is not possible to increase output significantly in the immediate short term as increasing factory space/facilities probably takes a lot longer than a few weeks, and probably needs to be planned months in advance. Unless people start cancelling their pre-orders left and right this camera is probably going to be in short supply for a while yet to come.

Moral of the story: Patience, not everyone at Panasonic is out to get you, they are in a very difficult situation, and some of the representatives do care.. So try to stay civil, at the end of the day it is just a camera, in a few months there will be another camera to salivate over.

Sigh... if only I had ordered one day earlier....

A lot of us that ordered before June 9th are in the same boat...I haven't got my camera and it really angers me that people who ordered after me have (although no anger towards the people, I wish I had my camera, anger toward Panasonic.)

I just called shopatron and they said that there were a lot of orders with this item on it. They have seen some go out, but they have no way to check the queue to see where an order is. Looks like we'll be waiting a bit more.

I am going to call today late in the day to see if shopatron orders are getting extended backorder or not, mine specifically...they said backorder was supposed to be over June 29th but they should know today if it's being extended.

Just got off the phone with Panasonic Direct about my June 10th order. The woman I talked to said that no one there has any idea when the next shipment arrives.

This is getting a bit absurd, no? I've been super busy lately and remember to check the GH1's status once a week or so. I can't believe they still haven't sorted this whole mess out. Must be maddening for the early pre-order folks.

I am one of the lucky ones who ordered june 5 and received it two weeks later. I came back to look at this thread and I read about how this mess is getting worse.
Jeez I feel awful – I know how bad it must be waiting and seeing all these other people like myself posting stuff.

I don't know whether to keep posting stuff or refrain from rubbing it in.

Keep calling them, keep politely bugging them. I really hope there is a deluge of cameras about to arrive to make everyone happy.

J Davis you lucky lucky person...I ordered June 4th and got shopatroned and who knows what's going to happen, supposedly it's shipping out next tuesday and they said they really doubt the backorder will be extended.

This is a guess. But I think it has a lot to do with your shipping address. Panny may have dfferent warehouses for their products around the country and densely populated areas may have been allocated more. Its the only explanation I can figure (other than incompetence)

Well as long as it goes out early next week as they've been saying and the backorder isn't extended I'm happy: i'll get it before a new york city trip and in time to come up with a creative short to shoot for it, and then make it, before the summer is over.

This is such a bummer. I was in this predicament for the longest while also until I pulled the trigger from a Canadian retailer. I dealt with them so much on the phone that I got sick of it. I kept on getting the runaround even though I got my preorder in May. Best of luck to everyone! When you get it, you won't be disappointed.

That's exactly why I said if you really want this camera you should pull the trigger on the canadian ones before they vanish. Premium or not, I bet it beats the hell out of checking your order status EVERY day.

Just got off phone with Shopatron. My order which was supposed to be off backorder today has been extended "for at least another month." I am very, very angry.

You know, it probably doesn't help that people have pre-orders in at 2 or 3 different places. Once Panasonic finally delivers a few cameras, I bet demand will decline sharply from people canceling orders.
