GH1 .mts files - how do you join them?

NO luck with EAC3to. There were problems playing back on my Popcorn hour media player- it was all over the place. I'm trying Sony Vegas 9 now. It took 1 hour to 'render' a 10 minute clip. I'm using the recommended Sony AVC -avchd settings. Initial playback shows no major problem. Looks like this is the only one that works so far. I'm still testing.....But is Vegas doing this natively? Why does it take so long. When i joined my HFS10 files through pixela it was definitely way quicker as if it was just a simple join.

Sony Vegas fail too.

Sony Vegas fail too.

OH Nooo.....Deeper into the clip the audio started to get out of sync. This is from the sony vegas with the Sony AVC settings with all default settings. What am i doing wrong here - nothing seems to be workable.

I'm playing this throug the popcorn hour media player and the plasma. I'm quickly running out of software to get this to work. Could it any settings which should have set - i didn't cut/trim. Just pasted 27 files to the timeline and rendered to the Sony AVC settings which according to the help file is the avchd settings to use.

There is only one software in this life that works with the FHD GH1 files - Edius Neo 2. End of story. It completely and utterly works brilliantly. No audio sync issues and i can forward/backward successfully on my Popcorn hour media. Life is truly good again. It's worth the money.

i've now pretty much tried everything available on the net. TSmuxer had audio sync problems, multiavchcd software went into a loop, something called mts converter ( a few of them) also didn't work out - a lot them had a bit of audio syncing problems. The one that came close to being a success was MTS_filejoiner. I had joined 27 .mts files together and playing back every 2 or 3 clip would not display properly, it then moved on and played the next clip properly with no audio syncing problems.

Has anyone been successful with joining your .mts files into one file without any problems for playback?

I tried tsMuxer and it works smoothly without any audio sync problems.

The only problem is that files that are at different size or framerate are joined okay but not playable. I think this is an expected, reasonable and acceptable issue.

For the MTS_filejoiner, I will try on it.

The DOS command "copy /b" works okay but information such as time counts, frame rates are not recalculated; it only shows the information of the first movie file.

For me, a hacked GH1 user, tsMuxer is an ideal tool to join MTS movie files. Thanks.

ps. Sony vegas won't allow bitrates more than 17 mbps when saving joined track while the original bitrates are over 20 or 30 or 40 mbps.

Edius allows me to modifiy the bitrate of the joined output file but the interface is rather unfriendly.

I would love tsmuxer to be a success but even with my Canon HFS10 - joining once again the numerous mts files there were audio sync issues. And now again with GH1. Unless i've not done something or can you pls share your successful settings to use with tsmuxer.

I'm loving Edius - really loving Edius. As mentioned with the popcorn hour i can even go fast forward/backward - it's that robust. All the other software would have crash with that exercise.

Pulldown??? I'm still trying to understand what it is and i was wondering if edius neo did handle it but i didn't care for it after what i've seen with now about 3 successful tests at joining .mts files into file. These files are definitely rendered i believe because :

1) it took about an hour to join approx. 10 minutes of filming

2) the original files, once again i think (honestly haven't done a serious comparison yet - got to get my brother together - he's got a good eye too) are more pristine and have more 'bite'/sharpness/resolution but i may be talking about a drop of approx. 3-5%. I can live with that if my file plays properly.

Appleman, I don't have a special setting for tsmuxer. I just load the first file, load the rest files one by one with the "join" button and join them using ts muxing, mt2s muxing, blue ray muxing or avchd disk options. All output options work okay. I join scores of MTS files into one mt2s file and the result is always good without any audio sync problems.

As for Canon HFS10, I heard that Panasonic uses the blue ray architecture to work around the 4G limitation; I have Japanses domestic GH1 that is free of that 4G limitation out of the factory. I suppose your Canon HFS10 MTS files are still capacity limited and the result is different from that of my GH1.

Actually this is my wild guess and I don't know why tsmuxer produces different results. I'd say I'm just lucky. Sorry.

Today I've experienced what Appleman said about tsmuxer, the audio syn problem.

I examined my MTS files and found this. All files are at FHD 1920*1080 size.

But framerates are different; some are 23.971(24p) and others are 59.970(60i).

Please sort out files with different framerates.

I just had a look at the new version of VoltaicHD for transcoding and noticed they claim they have a editor that can trim and assemble individual .mts files into one without transcoding. Haven't tried myself though.

http://www.shedworx.com/voltaichd-features#vhd-edit

(Voltaic HD comes in both OSX and Windows flavour.)
VoltaicHD doesn't trim the original clip. It only lets you limit the part of the original clip that is converted.

From their page that I linked too:

"Native AVCHD Output

Voltaic can create AVCHD movies from your AVCHD originals. Combined with the Shedworx AVCHD Previewer, VoltaicHD is now a simple AVCHD editor. You can trim and join AVCHD movies to create a single new AVCHD movie. The benefit of this approach is that there is absolutely no quality loss and it's FAST."

Personally I have zero interest in doing this so cba to verify if it's true but thought it might interest the OP.

I saw this on the same page:

"The ShedWorx AVCHD Previewer includes the ability to trim an AVCHD clip. This means you mark only the required section of a movie for conversion and the rest is not used."
