GH1 firmware research volunteers required

Hello guys, I couldn't follow the development of this thread the past three weeks. Is there any how-to for reverse engineering the firmware. I thought of things like dumping and flashing the firmware and general information.
If not, I would like to encourage you guys to put up a wiki for this issue or at least some kind of tutorial to get more people on the boat. I would also offer putting up a wiki for this project, if there is any need. Maybe we should gather information about the firmware.

I am pretty sure that if you load the original firmware into the patching software and do not select any options and then save that file, you will be able to update your firmware with the 'rolled' back version.

I have not tried this personally but read about this on a post in a dpreviews thread. Look towards the bottom of this page for a post made by tyampel:

SENDING AUDIO / VIDEO to a monitor!

SENDING AUDIO / VIDEO to a monitor!

I understand that efforts are being made to at some point discover how to output audio / video to a monitor during a video recording...?

I read on a forum (dpreviews.com) that it is possible to do this now in the picture-taking mode by connecting the camera to a monitor via the usb cable and pressing the Trash (Bin) button for a few seconds.

I dont know if knowing this may help tester13 with this process but i just thought i`d share what i learned.

see here
(look for the post by a Tony Wakefield)

I use a PAL GH1 and have removed the 30 minutes limit.
Great.

I only film in 720 mode. Does it make sense to also install the changed bitrate?

You can do that with the yellow chinch cable. But not during record. Only before and after, which is better than HDMI, because HDMI can only be used while playback.

Has the HDMI out been hacked yet?

At least the preview ? Already this would help a great deal.

Testing new ptool ver.

Modified 1920 frame height patch (try to use 816 or 8 multiples) - Same text and camera can't recording.

The composite video output during recording may indeed be an artificial limitation implemented for marketing reasons and may be indeed overcome by changing the firmware code. I know my Sony H50 has the video output enabled in video mode during recording.

The HDMI output on the other hand may require too much CPU attention and therefore not possible to hack.

It is pure speculation.
We don't know yet how they are implemented.

Thanks. We'll play with it few more times adjusting patch and testing.

Try to test "VA Bitrate adjustment" (this patch only) 1080p at 10.000.000, 6.000.000, 3.000.000 and 1.000.000 (all at detailed scenes). I need this files to compare them to ones we have from "VA Bitrate adjustment 3".
