Here is my quick GH1 green screen test:

Not so much motion because I only got a small piece of green painted wood :-S
Shot at 1/100, 1280/720 50p with Kit lens 14-140mm.
GH1 is not perfect for chroma keying, but I was able to achieved good result.

Could you do a quick rundown on how you did that? I am new to green screening as well just got a GH1...

does it matter so much really when you do it? or is a bright sunny day mid-day fine enough?

Guess this answers any questions I had about pulling a decent key with GH1 footage. Did you use Keylight in AE?

Some tutorial could be found by googleling :)
In green/blue screen shooting, the most important part is to have a uniform green/blue, uniformly illuminated. My test was shot outdoor at 5 pm when a big cloud passed in front of the sun.

Yes this exemple was made using Keylight. Only one click and a few adjustement have to be done. I'll show late this evening on my blog, why the GH1 is not perfect for chroma keying, with zoomed region of the image.

Hehe thanks. I know of the tutorials and such but I was just wondering if you had some more tricks to it or something. What would you have done if there were no clouds that day? Just not shoot it?

I would have shot it anyway :) I wanted to have soft shadows.

No more shooting tricks, maybe shoot at 1/100 - 1/120 shutter and add motion blur after the chroma keying with Reelsmart motion blur (works in some case) but you are already in the post production process here.
The 1/50 - 1/60 GH1 motion blur in front of green/blue screen produce sometimes really awful results one you extracted the alpha from it.

Hi 1kO: If you haven't already tried it, when you shoot a green/blue screen scene of something like a person standing (e.g.: a subject which is "taller" than it is "wide") rotate the camera to portrait (vertical) orientation and record in 720p mode. In post, rotate this footage 90 degrees and scale & chromakey it into a 1080p background. Theoretically this should yield better results than shooting 720p or 1080p in normal landscape orientation, especially for "tall" subjects that move.

Nice tip, I haven't really shoot a lot of blue/green screen since now, but for the next chroma-key shooting, you save me work-flow time with this solution :D
Thank you.

Whats causing the dark corners/vignette ... kit lens? mattebox?

EDIT : nevermind ... I see it... its an effect or lens vignette on the 2nd background

not perfect you say but this is good enough for me. thanks for sharing.
makes me want to get hold of gh1 asap.

@peter
nice tip good sir. first time to read that and it really makes sense

1k0, for some reason I have a feeling you are going to be very successful, i am not a mystic or anything, there is just something about you I think. You have some real tallent. Bonne chance.

They should shoot another Star Wars with the GH1. Yeah, not likely. Cool test, dude. Nice color correction.
