Panasonic has a number of different partners that they offer discounts to. I've ordered mine through my mom, who works for American Airlines for that same price of $1200. I also got my Black LX3 (which is still hard to find evidently) through this program at a significant discount ($250 or so iirc). I think they also ship those earlier. Mine GH1 is listed to ship in May.

mine isnt listed to ship till June though

so yours actually says its expected to ship in May? your lucky...
I called up Panny today to see if i could get a more specific time than "June", and
they told me thats all the info they have right now. i also asked if Corporate orders
get priority over others and I was told no. but the chic didnt sound very competent
so who knows.

im pretty much out of patience waiting on this thing. iv been following it since it was
announced, and its been wayyyy too long now! its June in less than a week and we
still dont have a definitive ship date!!

Well, all I know is my order status page says "Pre-Order - Ships May 2009". I guess I'll know in the next couple days if it's accurate, haha. I do need to get it reasonably soon. First baby is due at the end of July.

This translate to about $2000 US. I have purchased from UK Amazon before and there is no import fees other then shipping. Couple questions:
1. Since U.S. has not even had a press event like this one in UK, is it likely there will be a U.S. press event and a further delay in U.S.
2. Or is it likely the camera will be released in the U.S. at the same time as the EU version.
3. If at that time one can only purchase the EU version and its several more weeks for the U.S. version I might buy the EU version. If so, its 50i and 25p but of course that does not matter for upload to internet only for broadcast. However, I hear possible to work around that if you are so lucky as to get your footage broadcast in the U.S. Any ideas on this?

I really can't wait any longer then the second or maybe third week of June for the GH1. Otherwise I will have to fall back to a Canon HV30 or 40 and a separate still camera for work in Central America. I use PC so the 5Dmkii is not really possible to edit without all kinds of loss in compression. I shoot and then burn to blu ray and send blu ray home to U.S. to protect the footage from theft or loss. Then edit at home.

Any comments are appreciated.

Updated my first post. Price in Sweden with 14-140mm is 16995 SEK = about $2226. A little more than I expected.

So, got an email from my pre-order @ Adorama NYC which apologized for my pre-order being delayed. It gave me a phone number to call if I wanted to cancel.

So I called that number to see if they had received any info beyond the generic 'June' arrival date and the customer service lady told me they have an expected arrival date of June 7 at their store.

I'm hopeful.
 
In Canada I just checked my pre-order status on line and saw June 25 as the date under the Gh1's back order status. That little addition wasn't there before. It coincides with a pre-order I have with a smaller independent reseller who told me he may have it in hand by June 26. Looks like end of June for us here.
 
awesome, not only do we get to pay $1899 but we get to wait till the end of the month. i knew i should have just stayed in bed, that's depressing
 
Panasonic Center here in Stockholm, Sweden called me today and said they will have my GH-1 ready to be picked up on Friday. I got so excited I forgot to ask what they will charge :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Try not to lose heart on this. It was explained to me earlier that these dates tend to be worse case scenarios in a 'cover our butts' kind of way. Let's hope that's the case and that the delay means they're going to use us Canucks as the firmware update guinea pigs (I wish).
 
ha, that's wishful thinking but they might throw us a bone. i didn't even order mine yet, i'm not like most people on here who seem to have an unlimited cash flow and can pounce on a camera as soon as word lets loose it's available, though i could afford to pre-order mine, i think i'd save some money if i ordered from america and shipped to canada, that's my only hesitation, though vistek has free shipping to nova scotia

i just did some quick calculatin' and convertin', and if i ordered off BH photo and went with 2-4 day delivery it would cost me $1927.27
ordered from vistek.ca with free shipping my order comes to $2,145.87

it's not surprising, we pay more for gas, cellphones voice plans, and obviously electronics
