GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

It is not hackable. Go back and read the first page, and you will see that the last range of hackable serial numbers is WE0.....
WE1 indicates it's one of the newer models.....so, it's worth about $300..plus or minus, as they were selling for that brand new just a few weeks ago from Panasonic($350-shipped-no longer available)
The logic of the numbering system described on the first page would imply that a GH1 with serial WE1A was made in January 2011. This is highly unlikely. Perhaps the seller made a mistake in reading or transcribing the serial.
I suppose it's possible Panasonic adopted a different logic for the last batch of cameras.

Last reported HACKABLE model (firmware 1.32): WE0FD001125 (post #233)
First reported NON-HACKABLE model: WE0FD001141 (post #190)
This suggests anything before WE0FD001125 should be fine.
Has anyone seen any info that would contradict this?

WE0AD001024. Bought new November 2010 from Park Cameras in the UK. Can't remember the original firmware ≠: Hack works
WE9SB001003. Bought 2nd hand of guy in the UK. He bought it late 2009. He'd updated the firmware to 1.3. Now hacked perfectly.
WE9HB001064. Bought off a collegue ready hacked. Not sure how long he'd had it for. But, I will find out & post thre info here.

The camera was likely refurbished by Panasonic with unhackable v1.34 firmware. If the Ebay auction actually claimed it was still hackable, you should be able to return it for a refund.
Damn! The seller told me the serial and that the camera is from old stock. I did not asked him to check service menu. I think this camera will seek for the new owner...

i love the GH13 & 14-140 lens! i hardly use the 14-140 tho as its rather slow, i enjoy using manual focus canon FD's.
id say $1000 is a lot, especially in the US if thats where you are.

Hello Terra1 thanks a lot! I live in Switzerland and I have a GH2 kit with the 14-42 Lens. The thing is, I would have a GH13 ( no time limit, switch NTSC/PAL etc. ) and my question is, where can I find a 100% hackable GH1, I don't know if there are many around the world, so over ebay who knows..and yes B&H price for the Gh2 is o.k. but till now out of stock and I would have taxes to pay.
Probably the question is wait for the GH2 hack or use the GH13 as second camera.

$500+ seems to be a typical price for each of those items these days on Ebay.

Don't wait for a GH2 hack - it may never arrive! Encryption is super tough to crack...
Most GH1s are actually hackable, by far. However, most GH1s for sale are the newer, unhackable ones. You can buy 2nd hand hackable ones from ebay.co.uk with 14-140mm for a mere £650...I have, twice. Awesome price that!

I can get hackable GH1 cameras here in Japan. They are second hand, but it looks like the shops or individuals who sell these, buy a GH1 + 14-140mm kit and sell the body & keep the lens, so these bodies are "second hand", but pretty much NEW. So for example, I've bought a black GH1 with only 74 shutter actuations, and a gold one with only 29 actuations!!!!!
I was planning to sell these on ebay.
e.g.
1st shows 74 shutter actuations and firmware 1.32, 2nd the serial number (FS9Lxxxxxx, which is December 2009, so Hackable), 3rd is menu in Japanese.

Very low. Quite possible to find old stock in small stores; Amazon isn't one of them, for sure.
Red/Gold seem to go more expensive for some reason. However, at least Red has been manufactered lately, so it's no way a guarantee that it will be hackable just cus it's not black.
The second big thing here is to find a GOOD Gh1... cus there are bad ones. Optimal is to find a 2010 model that is hackable, less chance of nasty shortcomings regarding banding & iso.
