GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

Hi there.

On page 15 someone is asking if the XT serial range is good to go or not? No definitive response has been given.

I just contacted a possible supplier and got a few serial numbers from the nice guy.

XT9SD00XXXX (champagne color)
XT0HD00XXXX (black)
XT0ADXXXXXX (black)
XT0GDXXXXXX (not so sure about the last one, due to bad handwriting of my own, could also be XT09DXXXXXX, but i think it's a 'G') (black)

Any news on these range of serials, good to go or not?

Thanks in advance.

If those numbers are correct, build month is:

XT9SD00XXXX - 2009 September
XT0HD00XXXX - 2010 August
XT0ADXXXXXX - 2010 January
XT0GDXXXXXX - 2010 July (XT09DXXXXXX is not a valid option)

According to all of the info in this thread (which you can find on th first page), any month May 2010 or before should be hackable.

Do you know this number: WE0SD00? Is it hackable? I'm not sure about the S in it. I think it was produced in April because of the D. Can somebody help me?

I know now where the XT serials come from. XT serials belong to the lens. My supplier gave me serials from the lens and not the body.

Very nice supplier, he took the effort to look into the service mode specially for me.

I purchased a new gold one with firmware 1.15 on it today. Made in China model.

Serial: WE9SBXXXXXX

Nice that i finally have a camera, my first one. Lots of learning to now, but at least i can do it. Reading all the forums is nice and helpfull, playing around with the camera is the next step.

Ok, guys! I watched this thread and the version infor for 2 months and wondered if I can get one in US. Seemed impossible after September. Luckily, I found a source which has jap version. Its has about 3-4 brand new body all in gold all with FS0A which means 2010 Jan, I compared the box serial with cam body serial they are match, but not allow me to do the turn on mode check. They all brand new, and sell at us600 each
I will go get one, if you guys are intrested maybe I can secure one for you. But seemed run fast.

By the way, they are total in Japanese, I have read they can hacked to english, but I never run into details, should be ok

Once you hack it, you can select any other language, including English.

Follow the pictures for the instructions for the hack, because when it initially asks you questions (e.g. "yes" or "no" to load firmware) it is still in Japanese!!!!!

WE0SD00 is September 2010, so it is NOT hackable. The "S" is for September. The "D" is not important.
There is a reason why they do the "S":
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, S, J, K, L. In many tech companies, they don't use "I" as a revision or version indicator because it can be confused with"1". So in this case they have used "S" for September instead.

So it runs:

A=Jan
B=Feb
C=Mar
D=Apr
E=May
F=Jun
G=Jul
H=Aug
S=Sep
J=Oct
K=Nov
L=Dec

thank you panystac! so i will not buy this one. it's a pity, because i get a great deal with this serialnumber...

very strange that panasonic produced the gh1 still in september.

Hello all,
I have been reading this forum with great interest in regards to the hack project. I now have joined and yesterday bought a GF1 off the shelf in Spokane with serial #FVODC*******. Firmware V 1.1 ! Store is Huppens (internet is OneCall). They were shocked by the Amazon price ($599) and bought their batch a while ago (I expect Amazon got a closeout price from Panny). They would not match the Amazon price but came down to $699 (store price is $725). They did not even have the camera on display and said they have had them awhile. If interested you could call and ask about the serial #s. I expect they are all from the same shipment. I will now attempt the hack and will read up on the specifics and settings for the GF1. If any one has any words of advice specific to the GF1 please send them along. Thanks....

I've found a source of GH1s at a shop with serial numbers ranging from WE0FD001059 to WE0FD001091

Now according to posts, these are very close to the June "cut off".

According to this thread here h http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&message=36249119&changemode=1 , some of these may be hackable:

"The first camera I ordered (Jessops) was serial WE0FD00 1209 - June 2010, and had firmware 1.34 (unhackable)
The closest one on DXxuser that was hackable (firmware 1.32) was WE0FD00 1083 - so, in the 126 units between them, the firmware had been altered."

However, talking to the salesman over the phone, he couldn't get into the service mode, to check the revision number, by following these instructions:
"Temporary service mode:
1) Non-empty SD card must be installed
2) Check that single shot mode is selected.
3) Before trning on camera press:
a) DISPLAY+FILM MODE for GH1
4) Turn on power.
You must see ROM BACKUP option in settings menu.

Error code table in this mode:
1) Press left arrow + MENU/SET and hold them, plus press
a) FILM MODE for GH1

If you repeat error code table method one more time for'll be in CAMERA INFO screen.
Pressing Display will show you CAMERA INFO 2 screen."

He couldn't see any "ROM BACKUP" option. In the non-service VERSION DISP. menu, it said that the firmware was v1.3.
Now is that rounded up (so if indeed it was v1.34 then it would display as 1.3) and that's why we have to go into "Temporary Service Mode" to get the EXACT revision number...?

And if he couldn't see the "ROM BACKUP" option, does that mean it is 1.34?

He may have been doing it wrong. The instructions aren't perfectly clear:
i.e. On step 3, does he press and hold the DISPLAY and the FILM mode buttons while turning the camera on, or does he release the buttons before turning on the power?

(I didn't have a GH1 on hand, nor have I ever used one, so I could be much help to him!).

Thanks :)

Pressing buttons while the camera is not (yet) turned on, has no use... One should press both buttons and while holding them down, turn on the camera.

GF1 valid serial number

GF1 valid serial number

Hi guys,
This thread became a monster and is a pita reading all post (mostly related to GH1) plus the thread search function doesn't allow searching for GF1 :(

What are valid serial numbers for GF1? Is it true that the serial number is located outside the box, or is compulsory entering in the service menu to be sure that is hackable?

Thank you in advance

Hi, Please can someone help. I'm kinda panicking here, as I just got a GH1 and it seems that it is non hackable. Thing is though the serial number is WE9LB00XXXX. From reading this post, this is a serial from the hackable cameras right?

Can someone run me through what I should be doing please? Sorry, I'm pretty new to this. I've read through lots of post here, but I'm still confused.

Is there a sure way to know whether it is hackable? i.e. the fact that is says that I do not have permission to modify the volume.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not that anyone replied (haha), but it's all good now. I was missing one piece of information that's pretty vital. You have to press the play button after you've switched the camera on. I hit it by accident. But if you read back through all the threads on here, it doesn't mention it anywhere...

Anyhows, all good now :)

ALL you need is to read the first thread. Thread No, 1 on the first page. Read it fully - and its not too hard.

for a foreign language, use google translation. And copy paste the interesting parts.

On Ebay I found three GF1 with valid serial range:

FV9KB...
FV9SA...
FVAB1...

But none of their sellers shared the firmware revision....
Should them be ok anyway?

Good evening everybody, new to the field of "alternative firmware of GF1" I think I made a small ball, I did indeed install the firmware 1.23 on my GF1 Ptools before opening so that now I can further upgrade the firmware, even if I backup 1.24 or higher, I'm definitely stuck? thank you all for your reply. And goodnight

ha I forgot, the message on the screen is: no valid image, and my serial # is: FV9S ... Thank you again for your help

Would it work on this? The serial # is: WESKC002234

Firmware is 1.3

It was purchased in December of 2009
