GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

One other point, I bought a GH1 in Bic Camera in Japan (large photo chain store) with an unhackable 1.34 on August 16. (I posted thsi previously)

Serial number is:
YW0FF001011

However, only TWO WEEKS before that, I bought a GH1 from a small discount store in Tokyo, and it WAS hackable, as it was a 2009 build: FS9Fxxxxxxx (June 2009, more than one year old)

This may not be consistent, but it means that while the large photographic chain stores have high turn over in Japan, the small discount stores may not.

And one more point..... The unhackable GH1 was BLACK, while the hackable one I got was RED. I'm wondering if the black ones sell better and have a higher turnover, while the other colors are less popular (probably blue, then gold, then red), so they don't makes as many, and they stay on the shelves longer???

So what I'm saying, is that POSSIBLY, a Red or Gold GH1 might have a better chance of having an older build date, with more chance that it's hackable!!!!!!!!

That was my experience. My black GH1 was pretty much latest stock when I bought it - unhackable v1.34.

But I found a Red GH1 body (late 2009 model - v1.2) which had been left on the shelf and had even been reduced to get rid of it!

First, sorry for my bad and basic english.

Is following Serial hackable: GF1 - FV0D001335 ? (April 2010)

Can I buy the cam "blind" without to check the firmware ?

It' s a new one from a store in Switzerland.

By the way, I don't think it's been mentioned, but the serial number is on the OUTSIDE of the box, on the label with the barcodes.

Another thing, I've seen a number of second hand GH1s around Tokyo today, all selling for the equivalent of about $410 USD.
Serial numbers seem to be around FS9Dxxxxxxx to around the end of 2009 build.

I picked one up and it is FS9Exxxxxxx, and of course it is hackable. (it has 1.32 firmware)

A good option for if people are concerned about the 1.34 firmware problem.

Is it possible to have a unhackable Firmware with Serial FV0D001335 (April 2010) ? I think it's not possible....or not ?

Just to help build a picture of the cut-off point before v134 was installed on new cams -

I ordered a GH1, it was delivered to the UK store yesterday - Serial: WE0FD001209, and it had v1.34 installed (build date in June 2010) not hackable (and I didn't buy it)

Looking at the thread, serial: WE0FD001083 was reported as hackable - so, somewhere in the 126 units between them the firmware changed.
 
I just hacked my GF1 and in Mjpeg it is shooting 1440x1080. I am trying to figure out how to shoot 1920x1080, but cannot find that option anywhere.

I did it. I purchased the GF1 in blackmagic with 14-45 Lens

FV0D001335
Firmware 1.1

I'm ready the use the gorgeous Hack.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I bought a GF1 from Amazon during the $650 price on Aug 9. Was "back-ordered" and mine shipped Aug 18th. Ended up with serial FV0E and version 1.22 in the service menu, so still hackable :) Perhaps Amazon gets older shipments? Just FYI for anyone still trying to buy it new.

I suspect that Panasonic made a test with newer firmware on WEOFD001041 and probably few others. When they were satisfied, they started implementing a new FW. It was probably after WEOFD001100 or hereabout.

As far as I know (especially from private correspondence), WE0FD00109X is the last camera (on this thread) which was hackable. It would be interesting to find the "borderline" for Japanese models as well.
