GH-1 now $950!

Ok decided the $200 change in price was worth the return, especially since Amazon is easy to return the product to, I am going to take this route. $200 towards a new lens.

I also bought my GH1 two days ago using Amazon as the seller. Now its $200 of through J&R. Probably screwed without returning I assume?

Does amazon have a restocking fee?

I've purchased from Amazon and had a price drop. I've called and, after checking, they refunded me the difference. Worse that can say is "No." Plus, they have a 30-day return.

How do you know?

I called Psychic Friends.

Under "Product Features and Technical Details":

  • Optical zoom: 10 x
  • Maximum Aperture Range: F/4.0-5.8
  • Minimum focal length: 14 millimeters
  • Maximum focal length: 140 millimeters
  • Lens Type: Zoom lens
If it didn't come with a lens you could return it.

My bet is that it was a screw up. I have cashed in on such things before and resold on ebay for profit.

There's a reason most vendors have the same price and a "low price guarantee". It's called minimum advertised price, MAP. Even if J+R was blowing them out I bet every other major dealer was calling their distributor to raise hell.

But, if you prefer to see a conspiracy, enjoy and please post the pics of mars as large as the moon.

That's called price fixing and is illegal.

No it's not.

Read it again slowly:

Minimum ADVERTISED Price (MAP)

It's a way to stop the big box stores undercutting little stores with their greater purchasing power.

It does not stop anyone from selling the item at whatever price they want. They just can't advertise the fact.

price is back to normal :(

Well... I love to say I told you so.

2nd post, page 1.

I'll bet it isn't that same price by the end of the day... incredible deals pop up on Amazon from time to time... this will be great for a few lucky people, then be sold out.

It still shows at normal price on the real J&R website... (posts of "yay! I got one!" and "bummer, I waited, or missed this, and now the price is gone") to follow...

All the speculation... sign of the times... changed firmware etc... it's worth it for Amazon to move a relative few units near cost, to convince you of exactly what they just did... "it pays to keep an eye on Amazon".

Thanks to the OP for posting... although saying "it's now $950" instead of "on SALE for $950"... probably helped all the wacky speculation of "what does this mean?"

It means a few people got a bargain. Congrats to those who did.

So I did receive my $950 J&R GH1. Came with firmware 1.2. Easily hacked with no problem.

Ended up returning the Amazon GH1 for a refund since Amazon is easy to return to. Seems like US dealers have hacked-versions of the GH1 still in their warehouses.

The J&R version has a WE0ADxxxxxx version serial number. I did not check the Amazon one.

I ordered mine today from JandR, hopefully I'll luck out and get one of the earlier firmware models also, I probably won't receive it until Monday.
