GF1 testing and footage goes HERE

mpg, do you mean you can install lower version numbers than what's on the camera?

You can install any version you want as long as that version was created with the Version Compare setting checked.

I switch back and forth between the newer and older versions I have created at will. As long as they were created with the version compare setting they will work.

I concur captain. My tests have shown the same results. Right around 40 mb/sec seems to be a magic number for reliability. Right arround 100 mb/sec appears to be a magic number for ultimate quality.

How would one go about specifying those mbit levels (point me at the correct thread if I shouldn't ask that here :))?

I got my GF1 today, the 400 24 settings really made a difference! That and 4:2:2.

so far we have this

all quality set to 100 - max bitrate recorded 22.33
all quality set to 200 - max bitrate recorded 49.68
all quality set to 400 - max bitrate recorded 106.60

table settings appear to have no effect on top bitrate, just the difference between top bitrate and bottom bitrate, with lower table settings giving smaller differences. however, if the table settings are too low, the camera fails to record.

i think with all four table settings set to 24, you can set the quality settings to any number under 400. i tend to keep the four quality settings set to the same value, as i'm not sure what the difference does. (if anyone knows what the difference does, please post)

hope this helps :)

Did some skydiving with my GF13 today. 720P AVCHD C settings in ptool. Converted to Apple Intermediate Codec and exported to H.264 16000 kb/s and uploaded to YouTube.

I used the 20 mm pancake lens and the new Olympus 9-18 mm wide angle.

Dude, you jumped out of an airplane with a GH13 strapped to your head and lived to tell about it! If that isn’t the best endorsement for a compact camera then I don’t know what is. I doubt the outcome would have been the same if you had tried that with a 5D MKII on top of your noggin.

Your video is just freaking cool. It makes the rock climbing video I am about to post look pedestrian. Oh well, you and your videos rock. Keep posting. We need more extreme sports in HD.

Was it a GF13 or GH13? Your post says GF13 and your video description says GH13. It is still really cool to use either one in this manner. How did you secure the camera to your helmet at 140+ mph?

Sorry about that. It's a GF13
The camera is mounted on top of a helmet. My helmet is custom made by me, but it's possible to buy helmets that are ready for freefall photography with a flat top.

First decently lit test video. Uploaded straight from camera to computer to youtube.

I used Pappasarts settings for 720/30p and set bitrates to 30/32/36 in that order (video/overall/limiting). I also have 4:2:2 colour selected. No write errors to Sandisk Ultra 16gb. Looks gorgeous on the computer, it's a shame youtube re-encodes but I guess you wouldn't want to stream a 300mb file.

What I'm not sure how to do is:

a) get the best quality 24/25p result at 720p (preferably mjpeg for 4:2:2) - I'm not afraid of using editing software, I just need a little guidance - feel free to point me to links.
b) get the best quality 60/50p result at 720p for semi-slow-mo :)
c) trick the camera into letting me set frame rate, AE lock? I'll google this as well but if someone can help a brother out that would be awesome. I have ND filters.

I'm going to NZ in 10 weeks and want to try and get proficient so that I have everything set up to shoot some video that will compliment my still photography nicely.

I hope the owner of this footage doesn't get mad that I'm posting it here without his consent but this is the best GF1 footage I've seen so far. Really amazing! AVCHD Lite hacked at 44Mbits and locked at 25 fps.
