GF1 testing and footage goes HERE

I believe you've taken me out of context. What I said was that the 1080p AVCHD option is available on GF1 AFTER the hack.

Hi Thrice, it would be great if that would be the case, but currently you can only do 1080p MJPEG on the GF1. AVCHD is still stuck in 720p even after the hack, you can only crank up the MBits on the AVCHD but not the size.

Unless there is a new version which I am not aware of yet.

16gb Class 4 Sandisk Ultra's are fantastic cards. I should really stock up in case they disappear. My stills camera has numerous issues with all other cards.

Guys I have managed to record in MJPEG at 108mbs/s on my GF1!!!

Uploading test footage to vimeo now.

Also managed to record at 99.2mb/sec for 2 minutes 15 secs

4.2.2, 108mbs?! That must be a joy to color correct! I would only have changed one thing...For a more filmic look I'd have set it to PAL so the framerate is 25p instead of 30p.

Dang, I cannot wait for my GF1 to arrive.

It's a little crazy, but even when the camera is set to PAL it still does MJPEG at 30fps. PAL/NTSC only affects AVCHD.

mike. What card are you using for this recording ? People were having problems even with Class 10 cards a while ago.

Hi thrice. Are you absolutely sure that you can record 1080p AVCHD ? with the GF1 ? I think the poster at vimeo may have made a mistake with the description.

I believe you've taken me out of context. What I said was that the 1080p AVCHD option is available on GF1 AFTER the hack. 1080p MJPEG wasn't available on either system before the hack and it appears to be interpolated at the moment.

mike, you asked about table settings, check out my table test below.

i've been doing some tests to see how the 'table' settings effect the 'quality' settings.

test 1
my first thoughts were that MJPEG E 1-4 provided the camera with different settings for the bitrate to be chosen, so i set them all equal
all quality set to 300
all table set to 80

With these settings i got back a variety of bitrates from 12Mbits/sec to 72Mbits/sec, averaging about 50Mbits/sec. i managed to trip the 'cannot write warning' with a clip of soil with concrete which recorded at 68.40Mbits

test 2
all quality set to 1
all table set to 10

no write errors
all clips recorded at a tiny 818kbits/sec, (kbits not mbits!) but all clips recorded were black without picture.
the remaining time shown on the camera was 30minutes.

test 3

all quality set to 100
all table set to 10

no write errors
max bitrate recorded 22.33
min bitrate recorded 10.91
remaining time shown 10m45secs

the codec is stable

test 4

all quality set to 200
all table set to 10

no write errors
max bitrate recorded 49.68
min bitrate recorded 35.57
remain time 5m22

the codec is stable

test 5

all quality set to 200
all table set to 1

no write errors
max bitrate recorded 51.27
min bitrate up to 38.67
remain time 5m22

the codec is stable

test 6

all quality set to 250
all table set to 1

tripped the 'cannot write warning' with first clip tried

test 7

all quality set to 210
all table set to 1
average 115Mbit

no write errors, recorded everything i pointed at, but all clips were just black

test 8

all quality set to 205
all table set to 1
average 100.05 Mbit

no write errors, recorded everything i pointed at, but all clips were just black

test 9

all quality set to 203
all table set to 1

no write errors, recorded all black but one clip worked at 67mbits

test 10

all quality set to 205
all table set to 5

no write errors, no black clips
max 66.84
min bitrate 57.86

the codec is stable again

i shall be doing some more tests this weekend, but maybe we should try different table settings with the working higher bitrate settings, varying the table by small amounts.

i've just discovered something else

for all us apple (os x) users, if you open the jpeg preview stored for each mjpeg clip made on the gf1 in the application called 'Preview', press 'cmd i' and choose exif from the info lists, you can see the following information for that movie clip. shutter speed, f stop and gain!

That's pretty cool. How did you figure that one out?

You can select the setting but I have been corrected being told it is upscaled 720p by users in this thread. I will check for sure when my GF1 arrives in a couple of days :)

I am not sure if you really can tell if it is upscaled or not. With the super high bit rates everyone is using for 720p everything looks good.

Hi mpg. My thoughts exactly. I dont see why anything would be upscaled.

I shot some video on our Rock Climbing trip yesterday and 1080p was useless. Even with a 30 mb/sec Sandisk it could not record for more than a few seconds with the highly detailed scenes I was shooting.

Luckily I had 3 high speed SD cards with me. I loaded 3 different hacked firmwares on the cards. I was able to switch firmware at will throughout the day because the latest Ptool allows you to revert back to previous firmware versions.

I would simply just put in the SD card with the settings for that particular scene, load the firmware and start shooting. I ended up using the 100mb/sec settings the most though. I just loved how bright and crisp the colors are at that bit rate.

I will try to post the down-loadable video to Vimeo later.
