Getting better Panorama/Panning Shots

Every time I see a movie and they have a panorama shot or a long panning shot, there is constant motion blur and it just hurts looking at the image for a long time.

Is there a way to fix this issue to keep the image looking sharp always?
Such as increasing the shutter speed rather than at 1/50?

*This would be for panning shots with nothing moving in the background.
Example: A 180' panning shot of the mountains.

Get a panaoramic head and shoot stills, stitch together and then pan in post.
Other method, just pan slower so there is no blur, and then speed up in post.

Panning stills looks amazing unless you want to show movement such as trees or cars moving.

Increasing shutter speed will decrease motion blur and therefore increase sharpness, and will give you some freedom then to increase the speed of the pan, however because of the limitation in all DSLR sensors you'll eventually get jello as you pan faster. This sort of camera move really exposes these cameras weaknesses. Try a 3rd party rolling shutter fix such as The Foundry's or iMovie '11, I have heard great things about both.

This is a known characteristic of 24p motion, be it DSLR or digital video or traditional film. The general rule to minimize this is that it should take 7 seconds for an object to cross from one side of the frame to the other. The slower the pan, the less pronounced the artifact.

I like the idea of still pictures. Whenever possible, I will try that.

Like you said, what if there are trees or something moving in the background?
- I cant pan very slow because whatever is in the background will be moving too fast when I speed the footage up.
- If I shoot a panning video with a high shutter speed, will the image not be jittery?

I never do any fast movements with DSLR's. I really haven't ever had an issue with the jello effect or even with the aliasing problems I hear all the time. Plus, these are slow panning shots. Its just the blurs that I dont like. I like to have everything visible.
