GATHERING SOULS.......A Richard Johnson Film

Well done Richard. This film has a great introduction, dropping you right in the middle of things gone weird, without having to make it all out action to start. I found a few of the closeups on the two main characters had some odd focus pulls – those didn’t really work for me. I know it was intentional, but there was a little too much gore for my liking, but thats just a matter of taste. I was most impressed with how well you managed to use a single location, that hotel room. It really gave it a claustrophobic feel. Thanks for putting this in.

This definitely freaked me out more than any other entry.

Good work.

Whip pan is a solid go-to for throwing a knife at someone.

Other knife work and stabbing business was very effective.

Thanks for checking it out. Some of those odd focus pulls were the result of shooting 20 plus hours straight.:Drogar-BlackEye(DBG

Thanks AJ. Coming from you that means a great deal. We tried another way to throw the knife but It was going to take way too long so we just did it old school.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Thank you for the comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Gathering Souls

Nice cinematography throughout on this one. Your actors were quite good, and well cast. I didn't quite get the old dude who killed them at the end. Nice twist on the Western theme. It didn't really leave me with anything though. Good work, one of the most professional of the festival!

I like what you did here, didn't expect that at all. Great twist. Glitches & flashes were great, editing overall. The focus was off in some close ups & you had camera reflection on the picture in one shot, but that's just me nitpicking :)
Nice job!

:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)nitpick all you want. It only helps. Glad you enjoyed it. thank you for checking it out. I was hoping you would.

This was fun, I didn't really know what was going to happen, I like the vampire western, its different. I looked like a lot of fun, and the use of the hotel room was great. How did you swing that? Great job guys. I had fun on this one. :)

After Charlie I had higher expectations of you on this film. Figure you would have really worked out how to use your camera. I was surprised you seemed to run into some focus issues.

The love scene didn't do it for me. The female was completely clothed and I didn't buy it, bra and panties would have been better. Not trying to be a perve, just think it would have been more believable. Not to mention her outfit was not flattering to begin with.

Great job on casting, as the actors performances were great. Good cinematography especially considering the size of the room. Another well crafted story. Bravo sir, enjoyed it.

I appreciate the comments Troy. I am happy you enjoyed it. The owners of the Inn were super cool.
We shot there like 27 hours straight.
Never again. If we could have broken this up into 2 or 3 days it would have been much easier and a lot cleaner. But I'm happy with the end product for the most part. Thanks again man. It means a great deal.

Richard! Crazy film man! I enjoyed it. I like the way you used the hotel room and I feel like the focus pulls that you did on the closeups as well as other shots helped to convey the claustraphobic insanity of the events. Really good job on the FX. I hear people complaining that digital stuff is trying to replace traditional effects but looking at your film is proof that it will never happen. Digital stuff is great but sometimes it just can't beat practical FX. Actors did well and the story was interesting but damn that guy's teeth were creepy.

Really good job man, as always. Liked it a lot!

Brian, Thank you! Both of us are still growing as filmmakers and I am happy you liked it. Because I really liked yours.

I loved this short film, I watched them all. But this is the one I WENT BACK TOO, AND REWATCHED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. All I can say is BADDASS.

Two of my favs as well. I can't thank you enough for checking it out!

You nailed this one. I love the actress, how creepy she is at the beginning, just puts in the mode of: this is going to one disturbed movie, but also: there is humor too. From the teeth, to the etchings in the arm, the special effects were pretty impressive. I love how there is constantly something new happening, and it was all filmed so well in a freaking hotel room.

Props to you and Chris for making this. I loved it.

Thank you so much! I totally appreciate you checking it out!

I really enjoyed this. Everything was spot on. I don't how to explain it, but it just devlivered this great creepy, intense, claustrophobic feeling throughout. The shots, music were great.

Great casting and then really well acted by everyone.

Classic Keaton script executed beautifully.

wow. Thanks con! I am very happy you enjoyed it.

And Chris was happy with it and that made it alright. He's a good dude.

I'm not understanding how your film didn't make the finals. What gives? I've been in the threads and read pretty much everybody's reviews and your film didn't make it? Wow.There's always people that make it that shouldn't and people that don't that should. You made another good film, so take pride in that.
