FX1 still available?

I was at B&H today and a salesman told me a new Sony HDV camera is coming out in August. He said it was somewhere in between the Z1U and the A1U in price/quality/features. I actually came on this board to see if anyone knew any more about it, as he was pretty vague. I don't know if its true, but why would he tell me that? Personally I am going to wait and see what happens before I buy anything, as August is just around the corner.

Stay tuned...

If it somewhere between the A1 and the Z1, my guess is it will be called the M1. Maybe N1 since M1 is a gun.

August would be good.

I still think it will be called the fx2, they already have name recognition with the "fx" designation. I was gonna buy an fx1, but i guess now i will be waiting until august. The fact that it is between the a1 and the z1, means that there is no possible way for an entirely new model along side the fx1, it must be a replacement.

Keep your fingers crossed for 24p!

Futureman, The "M1" thing was meant as a joke (between A and Z = M).

About waiting till August, I have the same problem. My only worry is that the image quality will be lower than the fx1 since sony doesn't want compeition for Z1 anymore. Its possible that they would have 24p though. So, the question then is whether the loss in image quality would be worth the addition of progressive.

For me, I i think i am going to just go ahead and buy the FX1, since we need to shoot in October. If i wait till august, it will still take some more months before somebody actually shoots with it, and compares it to the FX1 and Z1 so that we can know for sure how image quality levels up. So its not really just till August but several more months. I wouldnt want to buy a brand new camera just in August, without any confirmation abotu how good its pictures look, even if Sony claims its a replacement for FX1.

The FX1 is still listed as being available at Dbuys.com for $3049 with a full USA warranty. They are reputable. I purchased a Sony VX2000 from them years ago with no problems. I have an FX1 now and really like it. If I didn't already have the FX1, I would be torn between going ahead and getting an FX1 now or waiting to see what the next model brings. You never know if its going to be a real improvement or a lighter-weight version with a few insignificant improvements, ie an FX1 with 24p vs a beefed-up HC1. Hopefully the former, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
