Fujinon 55mm

So I shot a little video tonight outside my office.

It's nothing special, just a short rack focus video with the new-to-me Fujinon 55mm F1.8 lens.

Of note:

The only changes I made were to balance exposure. I did NOTHING to saturation or colors for this.

I did NOT have any ND with me, so this my shutter speed is around 1/640

Lens was wide open

I was really out there to test flaring on this lens and my Nikon. Neither are coated AT ALL. So I expected flare to be extreme and it was. So you'll see flare and that's intentional.

* I AM ABSOLUTELY STUNNED AT HOW GOOD THIS LENS IS!!*

(I've left it so you can download the original source file)

I did an indoor test 2 days ago looking for breathing, and couldn't detect any. I wish I could find an entire set of these things to buy. They are absolutely stunning.

The first 2 are rangefinders. That is a totally different type of photographic setup. The last one is an EBC lens. This was Fuji's multicoating similar to the coating used on the early Pentax. It is also a radioactive coating that is supposedly very effective.

I've seen good numbers of the EBC glass, but it usually goes for more than I want to pay for it. And honestly, a lot of the glass is small. Much like the Takumar glass. I prefer the larger diameter glass like the Nikon glass and the Russian glass.

So I'll stay with my Nikon (Nippon Kogaku) glass for uncoated, and build a set of coated Pentax S-M-C or SMC glass for outdoor use.

So much lovely and fun glass out there and people insist on buying cheap plastic stuff for twice the price. Ah well. To each their own I guess.

What's your Nikon setup looking like right now, Perrone? It's next on my wish list now that I have a setup of cheap FD primes.

I had an eye on this lens as I've seen reviews and shootouts that stated the Fujinon 55mm 1.8 is quite sharp wide open...it is also said to render colors a bit cooler - what is your experience Perrone, can you confirm that?

Nikon setup currently is:

Nikon F65 body
Nikon 28-80mm zoom
Nikkor H-C 300mm F4.5
Nippon Kogaku 50mm F1.4

Next month I'll add a 105mm 2.5 and possibly an 85mm 2.0 to the list as I've got a lot of portrait work to do.

It's tack sharp wide open and renders colors as well as any modern glass I've used. As long as you aren't pointing it near the sun!

As for rendering colors a bit cooler... cooler than what?
