Fuji X-T3 released

I'm sitting at home with a nasty cold, probably picked up from lack of sleep and stress from our flights being canceled/multiple delayed twice. If you ever fly to Key West, don't let your carrier from LA to Ft. Lauderdale (in our case, Jet Blue) book you on www.silverairways.com
They were incompetent and an absolute nightmare. We were booked on them for two 35 minute flights to and from Key West. The first flight they delayed it four times, then canceled it, then booked us a shuttle bus from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West. We arrived at our hotel
at 2:00 am and had to wake up to scout the path of the race back at 5:00 am. Then on the way home, they delayed our flight back to Ft. Lauderdale three times and we thought they would cancel. The delays both times were because, "The plane needs a part." The plane we
flew on was a vintage 1970s Saab that probably shouldn't be in the air. The travel on this gig was the most stressful part, the race was relaxing, in comparison. ;-)

XT-3 performed very well, I am extremely happy with our choice to shoot it with it.

Drone shot was from the Phantom 4 Pro

Which gimbal are you using these days Dan?

Zhiyun Crane 2. Not perfect but works pretty well overall. 2.71lbs vs 4.1lbs for the Ronin S. The Moza Air looks cool too but after reading JCS' challenges with the batteries/support, glad I bought the Crane 2. The Crane 3 looks interesting too but almost twice the money for a lot
of features that I wouldn't use (camera control isn't possible on the XT-3 - yet) and a weird shape and increased weight, I am happy with the Crane 2 choice, it's been a solid performer.

Really appreciate you sharing this experience!

Thanks. It was definitely the most interesting shoot of this year, so far. We'll be following our other main subject to a race up on the Oregon/Washington border in July, https://www.gorgedownwindchamps.com/ but not sure if she will race, she is the one who just went through Breast Cancer, 12 weeks of Chemo, double Mastectomy and is going through reconstruction.
That women just was back in the boat for her first race of this season, just weeks after the Chemo and surgery, she's so brave. We set out to make a film about sport of women outrigger racing and two years later, it has evolved to a six episode Docu Series that is a character study of the lives of the two women.
Interesting how filmmaking can lead you down radically different paths than the ones you set out on.

Since Fujifilm loves to hear feedback and listen, what are some realistic changes/features you would like to see with the X-H2? Internal 10 bit 4:2:2? Definitely don't want a mini-HDMI port. The BMD Pocket Cinema was just a bad experience.

This has already been hashed out ad infinitum on the FB Fuji Groups but we can repeat it here as many DVXers don't use social media.

12-bit 4:2:2 internal
Internal RAW video
Eliminate Micro or Mini HDMI Port, replace with full sized HDMI or mini SDI port
Eliminate 29:59 clip length restriction
Add Waveform
Internal NDs (which won't happen but we can hold out hope!)
Ability to apply REC709 look to LCD screen while recording F-Log
Bigger, longer lasting batteries
High Brightness (at least 1,000 nits) Flippy Screen
Make headphone jack metal instead of plastic

If Fujifilm decides to debut 2.91um next gen sensors in X-H2/X-T4, then we could event have internal RGB 4:4:4.

That would be pretty sweet. Notice how my wish list is relatively short? That's because the current XT-3 is so good for the money, it's really not lacking much. The batteries don't last long enough and the Micro HDMI sucks. But other than those two things, it's pretty great overall.

Panasonic is pushing 6k and higher DR. I hope we don't get in yet another resolution war (4k from a 6k sensor is as much as I'll need for many years) but now that 10-bit internal is standard I'd definitely welcome a DR war.

I dig the shape of the Zhiyun Weebill Lab, but can't fully recommend it. It's a bit hard to get my Fuji balanced on it slightly rigged as the vertical adjustment is limited. I had to add some weight to the platform. And I hate that there is no way to get into Follow mode without the iPhone app or holding down a button continually. I also wish the panning was more dampened than it is. The USB power source is awesome for the XT-3 though. You can shoot almost all day without changing batteries. The Transmount adapters make it easy to quickly go from low angle/tripod handle/monopod.

I'll also add the I like the SmallRig L-bracket for the XT-3. It protects that HDMI connection and gives you some mounting points for microphones and adds a Arca-swiss plate at the bottom.

If you'd like 4K from a 6K sensor - done right - then you want a resolution war.

Any kind of technology struggle for better specifications, really.

Well the 2.91um next gen sensors are at the frontier of a resolution war. 4K RGB 4:4:4 from 12K:

When I was shopping for a gimbal, that Weebill Lab had just came out and I looked at it and had the same concerns you do, it looked interesting but since I had the original Crane, the Crane 2 was just a more capable version of that, I went for it. It's been a pretty good tool, I am very happy with my rig now that I added the Atmos Shinobi and can see what I am doing with it!

XT3, a6500 and a7III already do proper 6k-to-4k video ...
Do they?

Or do they toss out some info, if not every other line, then in some sort of a circular pattern with the center retaining a 1-for-1 readout and the edges skipping fast and furiously?

What is the HDMI output lag like on the Fuji X-T3?

Is it any better than on the Panasonic GH series (which aren't great in this regard)?
