FS700 on B&H

Hasn't that been up for a long while now?

I'm pretty sure I checked it out when I put my order in (with another vendor) a few weeks ago.

B&H is old news - AbleCine's the place to order.

Unless you live in California, because then you have to pay the sales tax which tacks on about $800 :(

But it would be nice to have the better customer support since I do live in L.A.

Forgot about that - I see your point.

Living in Oregon, our schools are broke, our highways are rutted and infrastructure is falling apart but we don't have sales tax.

If you want to write off your purchase you need to pay sales, or usage, tax, so purchasing out of state is a wash for many professionals.

+1 ^ I've written off lots of equipment that I didn't pay tax on. You're depreciating the equipment not the tax you pay on it.

I'm sure each state/county/city has it's own rules, but where I live you are required to pay sales or use tax. Sales at the time of sale or use tax afterwards and that is regardless of if you write it off or not. I'm not sure how hard they look for offenders, but I know the penalties are very harsh. I'd guess that some people don't pay (just as some people use copyright material without license) but that is the law (here at least).

Some states have a provision for escaping or minimizing sales tax on production equipment. Texas, for example, will exempt equipment bought for professional production purposes. And California has a form you can fill out that will minimize the tax, instead of paying the full rate. If you're in California, you should consider buying from a dealer who understands that form and can charge you the appropriate minimized tax rate; EVSOnline is one such example. A quick googling found comparable programs in Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, Utah, New York, and a rental tax exemption in Washington.
.
I'm not going to take the time to look up every possible state, but obviously anyone who lives in any particular state should research if there are exemptions.

California has all of that, plus the state government itself is broke too. Yet it has the highest sales tax in the country.
