FS7: FS7 successor (rumours/expectations)

There are some good guesses here, but naturally I can't say which ones. But someone must have a crystal ball and will deserve a pat on the back.
I don't want to build up expectations too high, though. I mean you're not going to get a firmware update to make the FS7 8K or shoot 1000 fps.

If Sony comes out with a new extension unit for the FS7 with built-in RAW capabilities they'll most likely come out with new media. Can't see many FS7 owners paying $2000+ for an AXSM card.

You can say which ones are wrong though...right?

Still hoping for a much better AF. That's the only real problem I have with the FS7, especially when I use a gimbal, or when I am standing in front of the cam ...

I'll be one of the contrarians- I'd much more prefer a brand new camera, lighter with a great AF FS7 successor, than a firmware/hardware upgrade of the existing line.

I was guessing what I 'thought' it was, not what I 'wanted'. If I were in charge, I'd
prefer a camera with the size and variable ND of the FS5, the oversampled 6k chip
and AF of the Sony mirrorless cameras, the codecs and frame rates of the FS7,
and the Raw output of the FS5/FS700 (no need for the 'back' just direct output
to a recorder) as well as a choice of buffered or continuous for HFR (sometimes
it's nice to use the buffered HFR with 'end record' set so they you can capture
and unpredictable event without just rolling (say waiting for the whale to breach,
you might have 10 minutes of nothing so instead of rolling that entire time you
set the camera to end record and right after it happens, you hit record and get
the previous 8 seconds.)

Maybe they'll lower the camera's native ISO (if possible). Not sure what was done inside the a6400 but it has the same sensor as the a6300/a6500 and its base dropped from 800 to 500 (like Venice). Probably would also be worth getting the FS7 on the same page with Venice maybe with some color tweaks. (This would be in addition to other obvious improvements like data rates and any other bumps or "fixes".)

I've got the A6500 and the 'base' ISO changes depending on which picture profile you
select. Similar in that way to the FS700 which I also have.

When discussing base ISO in a professional setting, it's understood we're talking about LOG.

I wish that were true, but it my experience that is not the case. I have conversations (electronic and face to face) where people want to use ISO numbers for Custom as well as CINE EI. I can't remember which cameras off the top of my head, but some Sony cameras are set for ISO display instead of Gain right out of the box even though LOG is not the default. I think it's best to be specific when talking about any camera settings in hopes of preventing confusion.

^^ What Doug said. This is one reason I just set my
camera’s to ‘Gain’ whenever I can. Not that I mind
kicking in a little gain if I need to, but it’s easy to know
how much above ‘0 gain’ you are no matter what
gamma curves you are using.

FYI, the base sensitivity (or ISO if you want to use that terminology) changes on pretty much every Sony camera depending on the Gamma mode and other settings that you choose in the REC709 paint menus. And that includes the FS7.

Well that sure revived the thread!

I am hoping that we do get a complete refresh, I will definitely buy in. I get so many calls for this camera, Ive been waiting to pull the trigger.
