Sorry Bill, my oversight. I always think of the Amira as having the PL mount on it. (Thus when I get hired on an Amira shoot I typically may bring some PL lenses -- and none of the companies I work for that own Amiras have the EF adapters for them.)
People absolutely could have used MFT glass on the EVA1 MFT as well, just like people do with the JVC LS300
I thought that cam was well deisnged but has some critical flaw (I cant remember what - 20mbs 420 codec or something that made it unusable)

Yes, they updated it to 422 internal.
But still, when consider its low low price at the time at which it was released, then having 4K 8bit internal isn't that bad. After all the FS5 was the same, as was the C100 (heck, not only is the C100 8bit, it can't even do 4K!).
And the reasons for that was..... ?
I'd say the #1 reason was because it was JVC
And the MFT mount is one of the few things which helped save the LS300 and got it more attention.
In the broader context, the JVC LS300 still has been their "most successful cinema camera recently"! ha ;-)
Native MFT lenses could have been automatically detected and adjusted for by default.
It is only a moderately mild crop to go from APS-C/S35 to MFT

For years Panasonic has built up a successful line up and following of fans with their GH1/2/3/4/5/5S cameras (not to mention all their others, I quite like my old G6 for instance. And hope to get a G85 soon).
Where is the natural upgrade for all these many users for them to be able to stay within the "Panasonic Family"??
Back in the GH1/GH2 days you at least had the option of an AF100 to possibly consider.
But now? It is utter MADNESS that Panasonic has nothing which is a natural upgrade for shooters to aspire to.
As if they're going to switch lens systems and get themselves an EVA1, well then they might as well consider jumping ship just as easily to something else completely different like a C300mk2/UMP/FS7/Terra/Raven/etc
This was a big massive missed opportunity by Panasonic to keep hold of their existing built in fan base, instead of throwing them away and risking them leak across to the competition instead.

glass to the point that I was using EF glass on GH cameras
and I was looking for an upgrade.....I’d be inclined to upgrade
too a C200 or C300ii so I could make full use of the glass,
autofocus and such.
I think it was too much trouble/hassle to go about with the system. I believe (but don't quote myself on that) that I said when it came out --- if it were "more than 4K", then the crop made it "only 4K", then it'd be OK for more people. As it was, everyone was going toward 4K and the camera picked an odd niche to be in.
Plus, as you said, it was an only ILC JVC product, et cetera, et cetera.
To quote that Dickens fella, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". Or, to quote myself, "It's easy to be a gold medalist in a one man race".
That's right. It was a corporate decision - made in the conjunction with other manufacturers - that MFT shall remain an entry level line. No upgrade to the AF-100 tier. Panasonic, Olympus and everyone else in the MFT Coalition was using Sony sensors and Sony wasn't going to make a 6K MFT sensor back at that time and there was no serious movement to use the same sensor on a higher end model. There was even no movement to make the GH bodies more like the AF, despite GH being mostly used for video rather than stills.
On the other hand, GH-4 got a 10-bit upgrade, something that even the much higher priced Sony models lacked. In that arrangement, it's the Sony mirrorless users that got screwed.
And the 5D series got the crop.
That's how the cartel works.

To some extent the point of this is to give you, and anyone watching from the dark, help and guidance in influencing the makers to deliver product that is desired by people on this board who may or may not represent a wider market.
While 'we' don't represent a good cross section a lot of us do shoot and have owned various cameras and used them in the field a lot. Unlike you average blogger who use a camera for 10mins and then issues their opinion.
I for one hope that input is positive and you don't feel hammered.

As being pro MFT (for event/art corporate) I think it is small enough to make a viable semi pro zoom (not that there is one) and large enough for reasonable lowlight and narrow DOF when used with fast primes. Its the step that can bridge between vido and 'cinema'
But they went with a fixed-lens system for that - DVX 200 and its current iterations, including the smaller 1" sensor.
Another corporate decision.

I'm confused by much of this thread. At the start of the DSLR revolution I jumped from Canon into a GH1, then GH2, GH3, several GH4s for a daily broadcast show in Latin America, and a GH5. I dabbled with A7s's and other Canons and shot on Reds, Arris and the like over the years on larger productions. But when I decided to buy a 'real camera' the Eva1 was first on the list. It was absolutely an aspirational camera as a Lumix owner and my collection of Lumix lenses was something to figure out but not a deal-breaker. The core set of Sigma Art and old Nikon primes remained the same on either camera. And, moving into an S1 as a Bcam that is even more the case.
I should note also that I didn't just run out and buy an Eva1...I tested extensively, especially against the C200 and Fs7, but also the Ursa Mini. I considered staying in the GH5/GH5s lane, going to a 1dX Mkii...I'm a nerd with this stuff, I looked at everything. I considered stretching to a Varicam LT but was worried about hitting 7 countries with it and staying low-footprint, and for a day I thought about trying to do a Gemini package but then I thought what the heck am I talking about.
Point is, I kept coming back to the Eva1 for a sweet spot. Without a doubt its the best sub-10k camera on the market and punches way above its weight. The battery life, ND filters, DR, ergonomics when setup well on the shoulder, ability to go to 5.7k raw and color as well as a half-dozen other little features make the difference over DSLRs worth it for me, even though I always loved the DSLR form factor more than most people. Sure all cameras are pretty good these days and there are some features that might take you to another brand, but I feel comfortable that the best all-arounder is the Eva1. GH5/s and S1 are great too. I don't know how Panasonic does so well with Varicam and Netflix but feels like the underdog at the lower end of the market but it really surprises me these machines aren't everywhere. I certainly hope they don't listen to a lot of what is being said in this thread.

The main point (kindly sharing) should be that it's the best sub-$10K camera FOR YOU.
And the best sub-$10K camera FOR ME may never be the one for you.
No AF, no IBIS, and/or no viewfinder makes it unusable for some people.
(There sure are other things but kept it simple with the major omissions, IMO.)

They are not looking at it like that. To the Japanese members of the cartel, it's a total pie, not the individual slices. Whether you make money on the GH-series or the FS-series, the only thing that matters is that you make money overall. (and Sony makes a crap load off their sensors).
But, insofar as the camera designs themselves go, Sony could have made a pro-style camera based on the A7S-series or the A-6300/6400/6500 series. And Panasonic could have done one of the GH-based series. And so on and so forth. The reason FS-7 soldiers on in its 5th year is because it's allowed a certain set of features but not others. At some point - and I believe these deals last 4-5 years - the deal expires and a new model comes out.
Meanwhile, Red and BMD poop out a design a year. That's 'cos they're not in the loop.
Yes, I think I make this point that for specific needs other brands might be better, of course it's just my opinion, but as an all a-rounder I do think it is the best and I think a lot of people end up with a Canon or a Sony because other people are doing it when they'd be happier with an Eva1 if they were exposed to it or knew what was up.
I love IBIS but it isn't a factor in cinema cameras, yet. Must have AF would be a reason to go Canon...pretty much the only reason, though people like the color and reputation. I feel like I have a viewfinder with my Zacuto, but it absolutely requires solving.

Smart people know what's up. You'd have to be a fool to pay $6K-$7K-$8K for a camera (especially in 2019) because other people are doing it.
It's just about the individual features...that's all it is. But people usually ended up with Canon or Sony because the EVA1 was either too much money (still is, IMO) or they already owned the Sony, which does 90% of what these new cameras do now since 2014.
All of them end up looking the same on YouTube.

I'd love to see an e-mount FS version camera that is a third again smaller than the FS5 with FS7 type features like 10-bit, and an XQD card slot.
Something ideally suited for a gimble like the Ronin-S, etc but has real XLR inputs, and a centered viewfinder screen for balance.
no eyepiece, no raw. With a global shutter so you could do quick crazy gimbal moves without jellol

Yup, now I get it.
I have both mounts and use them equally.
Sometimes to get the Amira on a project I have to use EF lenses to make the budget work.
