FS7: FS7 Firmware Version 2.0

It looks like they are including almost everything that I need for now. Waiting another month is a pain but I blame Red Camera Co for that. They are in the habit of announcing things long before they were really ready as a form of one upmanship. The other companies started responding in kind.

In their defence they do tend to over deliver eventually in terms of free upgrades that surpass the original spec, plus an upgrade path.

Wasn't the F5 4k-gate brought on by a hack in the first place and is still a paid firmware update?

With my Red I was given new free resolutions and framerates, new colour sciences, new exposure tools like the brilliant 'Gio Scope' etc and all sorts. All on a relatively regular basis over a long period. And all free.

I'll be honest, I'm coming back to Sony after being away for a long time so they might have improved in those areas in that time. But however frustrating Red can be as a company they do foster close ties with their customers, you have access to and can talk directly to the CEO Jim (and now Jarred) whenever you like and they do try to over deliver.

I've never really heard people say that of Sony.

Of course what we'd all like is for everything to work perfectly out of the box like Arris, but at the price of an FS7 :)

not sure why RED is even in this thread but as an Epic owner i can't really follow....the promise of 16+ stops DR and clean 2000iso is still not even close to realized, 2 years later....now we are asked to believe in the MOST AMAZING AWESOME WEAPON EVER! without even getting a hint of what it even is? and each step of just the upgrade is quite a bit more then the entire FS7? i won't even go into the whole 4K for 4K fiasco or the whole NAB clean room sharade....and from my own experience: yes, you can talk to RED, as long as you don't question anything or ask too many questions....
i never got new free resolution or frame rates, i got better compression and better frame rates but i had to buy a new side mini mag module (1300$) along with a mini mag 512 (2450$) which is barely free and honestly it finally gave me what RED had promised in the first place...we both know that anything over redcode 6:1 is not quite so great....as for the Gio Scope, awesome idea, not sure why they had to come up with their own "Zone System" for that one....

everybody is entitled tot heir opinion and i can understand that people get a little frustrated if timelines slip but it is a general problem these days, products are old news a week after they are announced and all these companies are pushing this stuff out faster and faster...we are all beta testers now...

the FS7 is a pretty amazing camera and incredible for the money IMO....

As I said, they can be frustrating :)

All the WS resolutions came in for free and re compression I've shot BBC docs in 8:1 on a Scarlet but I digress...

The Weapon stuff is extremely cringeworthy, but it's also indicative of the following they've built up with a large segment of their customer base. I jumped ship so it didn't work so much for me, but I get why they inspire blind loyalty with some.

I know the .pdf was already posted but i thought i'd throw it up there one more time in case people missed it. Thanks.

This is a panacea. 4 channels of addressable audio. Too bad you have to blow off the hot shoe for yet another device, though I expect there to be a shoe on the shoe adapter. Wish there were an optional stereo 5-pin input but I guess that's just crazy talk.
Ridding the magenta from balance is essential. And allowing optical stabilization to remain on after power cycling is another essential. things are looking up for the FS7 to rule.
