I was just forwarded a Sony Canada dealer communication regarding the long awaited Sony FS100 firmware. March 22nd is the release date - so one more month to go.

Here is the Canadian download page link, although the firmware won't be available until March 22nd.

This is good news.

One thing I really want is for the camera not to change it's own white balance randomly in the middle of a shot. :)

- Oh, and the other is that you could set shutter angle to 180, 90 etc, and it stays constant throughout frame-rate changes. That is the absolutely most annoying thing about the camera right now...

Nice to know an official release date. Seems as if the feature list
hasn't changed to incorporated anything requested however.
Which could just be a 'couldn't finish extras' for this release because
they needed it out quicker for LA-EA2 compatibility.

I was under the impression they were making it so peaking would
transfer across the HDMI out...

Seems that's not coming in this firmware update?

And I would like to see black balance an assignable button because you really need to black balance with every lens change and going into the menu is a pain.

That looks strangely like a cut and paste of the list before. Hopefully they addressed some of the other changed asked as I know they looked at the requests from here and were evaluating them.

Wasn't peaking over HDMI addressed on the original list though?

Compatibility with new A-mount to E-mount adaptor [LA-EA2] with Translucent Mirror Technology(Auto Focus operation is available with alpha lens)

Hi everyone
The question at now is :
For run and gun is it beter to take what at now is available ,I mean 18-200E or maybe beter is wait and see how new adapter LA-EA2 + new firmware gonna realy work with alpha lens .

Stock glass works well (just not fast enough sometimes)
If the firmware is coming out in 30 days or so, I'd wait and see......(then again, this isn't really a run n gun type cam anyway)

I'm still wondering, as it's not clear, if one could adjust ISO/gain with the scroll wheel or not. That's a biggie for me. Anyone know?

Would be awesome no doubt. I am using the auto gain trick where auto gain can only go to 0dB so I at least have 4 settings. Still, I have to go in and do it by hand a lot.

We actually shot something at 30dB gain this last weekend and ended up using it. I am BLOWN away with how clean it was. We were in stairwell painted black with a flickering low output fluorescent bulb fixture. No way to get lights in without a generator and time restricted, we shot the shot as a B-roll just for the heck of it. Decided to use the flicker to just add some creative texture to the scene. Ended up looking GREAT. Just verified I want easier access to the gain in challenging shooting situations where the camera actually would work well with more gain.

I just wish I could get a bit of clarification on the peaking over HDMI.

A bit of interaction with Sony would be really nice, maybe some kind
of community presence. I believe they will widely miss the mark if
this feature isn't implemented and a couple others.

I use a Zacuto EVF and the only short coming for me is the peaking.
It's usable but I have found the focus in red on this camera is accurate
enough for my shooting conditions. In most of my setups I can't view the
on camera LCD.

Also wouldn't mind the information regarding a maximum aperture of f/3.5
with the LA-EA2. Just with AF or?

Anyone else hoping the list grows by the 22nd of next month? Seems slim
I understand quality control with writing firmware I believe they can do a bit
more in the time given however. I say this with a programming background
albeit not for such equipment.

We are releasing it on Wednesday evening I believe. We shot pickups Friday night, ADR, and then the editors computer drive died. Luckily, the project was on another drive! He says everything should be good to go in a few days. (Depending on him fixing the computer).

Now I should pre warn, we HEAVILY modified the footage. It's a faux trailer and we wanted a REALLY gritty/dirty/video feed issues type look. This did allow us to shoot under less ideal conditions on purpose.

After release, I will dig out a frame grab at +30dB.

And this is what kills me, we didn't even use noise reduction on it. Since we were degrading the shots anyways, it didn't matter, but coming from a 7D before, it was cleaner than ISO2000 to me.

My understanding is that the peaking could just be visible in the exported video, I expect it to look the same myself. How well it looks probably depends on the monitor attached.

@Rick Burnett

Long as it's visible that's great. Currently it will not export peaking to a monitor.
So the Zacuto EVF currently just over sharpens which is not ideal for all
situations.

I quite prefer the focus in red the FS100 offers but have no way
of viewing it currently since it won't output this data.

I find the focus in red on the FS100 works great as well, but I am also REALLY looking forward to the 4x 8x zoom assist as well.

@ ShawnLam: Explain yourself!^^

@ FelizGER - explain what?

Black balance?

You have to black balance every time you change lenses or your black levels will be off. When you look at the scopes, you want your colours to fall between 0-100 IRE. If you don't black balance you might start at 10 instead or 0 and although you can colour correct, you have already crushed your black levels on the recording, which isn't desirable.

Well I can say I don't black balance between changing lenses and have never seen this huge shift in black. Why would it change with a lens change? When you black balance you are blocking ALL light coming into the camera so one lens is going to show black just like the next lens. Now, I'm sure temperature of the sensor affects black balance, but I don't think putting on and taking off your lens makes that big a change. And yes, I've black balanced and not seen a difference.

Most manufacturers I have seen recommend black balancing at least once when you start using it, and subsequently if the camera goes through a lot of temperature change during the day (shooting inside, shooting outside) to get the best performance.
