fs 700 4k coming ?

I was the one that posted the message from the project manager of the FS100 (with his permission) about something of interest to FS100 users but not directly related to the FS100. I gave you exactly the information he gave me, nothing more, nothing less.

If they do have a new camera coming out, outside of ND, the one HUGE thing I care about is highlight handling. If they've improved that, it will pique my interest.

Agreed, Rick... I'm really hoping there is something in the FS100 upgrade that improves picture handling. A C-log equivalent (something not as extreme or expensive as the S-Log, but just a solid flat profile w/ nice highlight rolloff) would be great.

You guys hit the nail on the head. I really want to get one of these by the highlight rolloff is what is keeping me from it.

Speaking of keeping a secret, I don't see how Canon did that with the C300, there were a huge amount of people in their presentation videos the day of the announcement. The government needs to take a lesson from Canon.

So will any of the high speed modes of the camera like 300fps really be in 1080p? Or will all the high speed modes be SD? Why are there no cameras that can shoot high fps in HD? I am not talking about crazy fps like the phantom, just like 300 fps in HD would be awesome.

....red?

I just finished gradeing a music video shot at 300Fps on Epic - it tops out at 2048x858 @ 300fps, so it's much smaller than 1080, better to scale down to 720 at that speed...

and it really does not have that crystal clear sharpeness when debayered 1:1..... it was all a bit of an uphill battle, and if you ever needed to know the diff between the Tokina 11-17 and a set of S4's... this was it.... no scaleing down to 25% of the orginal image size to hide any lens issues.

Its a seperate thread but the highlights are OK - just steer clear of any of the profiles that engage the Knee (eg Abel) and keep it at 100% minimum .. IMO

This is exactly what I do. I'm not an expert on profiles however I do feel
this keeps the plastic issue down and things tend to look proper. It's
definitely a rule I follow.

Also if I get a color shift in the highlights one simple drag of a control in
Resolve fixes it by decreasing saturation. Adjust to taste naturally.

Whew... an hour later and I'm caught up. Although I have no idea what I just read. Somethin' about Tommy guns, ND's, downscaled 8 bit 8K = "9-bit" HD, and people sending their FS100's in for free upgrade's to an FS700. This thread is ridiculously entertaining.

You've been missing out on all the speculation! Rumour has it that this guy is shooting?starring in the first feature shot with the fs700. (if not, I just want to meet him cause he's the NEW "most interesting man in the world".)

Coolest guy ever

The FS700 sounds too good to be true for me, I wonder if they could be announcing a DSLR made for video shooters....similar to the FS-100 but without the XLR and etc.

They already have the VG20.
And the A57, A65, A77, NEX-5n and NEX-7 DSLR-style cameras all shoot in AVCHD 2.0.

True....at least we don't have to wait long for the mystery to be revealed. The 700 just doesn't make sense to me, it will take away from the F3 market for sure.

Why would Sony want to lower the sales and market value of one of their higher end cameras so soon after releasing it? All that money in R&D goes to waste.

The three to four year cycle is over. We're encroaching on 1.5 swiftly, and by the time you hit eight months someone's already announcing the next coming of cinematic democracy.

It's a powerful statement.

But at the same time, I'm not going to lose much sleep over the "next" camera or resolution as long as jobs keeps coming in. Most of my paid work gets down-rezzed for the net or some corporate powerpoint presentation, so it doesn't matter.

Indeed. You're definitely, in that case, the kind of shooter that needs to own a camera and need NOT worry about paying it off, because more than likely you will much sooner than the guy who didn't really have real clients to begin with.

I'm steadily falling out of your category because I want to direct, so purchasing a camera is becoming more and more a bad decision for me. Although I think I could still get one that I know would rent and put it at my friends rental house, that's still a huge gamble.

So, for those like myself, rent, borrow, beg. Or, just expect to see something better sooner than you want. It's just business.
