Obviously the FS1OO has a lot more space, 160gb, but I've also been reading some bad things about it. I was wondering what some of you who has purchased the FS100 think of it and its reliability, etc.
Thanks!
I have the FS160, and I don't have any problems with mine. And I have never had any problems with any of the Firestores I have rented. Maybe I have been lucky OR you just hear from the cranky people out there I had a 32gig P2 and I traded it for my current FS160. Search the forum and you will find lots and lots of debate over this subject, good luck.
I prefer the P2 card simply because it's a lot more rugged and reliable than the Firestore and it's less to carry, less to keep charged up, less bulk on your camera etc. But that's not to say the Firestore isn't usable. Just depends what's most important, amount of storage or convenience.
I usually shoot to the FS-100 for documentary projects where there could be very long interviews, and when I bought my HVX in Jan of 2007, the firestore was the best option available to me for those long running times. I didn't have a large crew, and nobody to offload 4 or 8gb P2 cards every 13+ minutes.
If I were purchasing an HVX today, I would probably grab a couple 32gb cards, or a 32/16gb combination. I did a shoot with P2 this weekend, and was quite impressed with the runtime on the 32gb cards.
i like using my fs100 for doing sitdown, somewhat locked, long form stuff. but for running around i use the cards. it works perfectly for me. but when 64's come out, bye bye firestore...
They both have their place... I would shoot to the firestore knowing I have a backup elsewhere (2nd cam or if possible keep a p2 card in and record some of the event).
You never want to put all your eggs in one basket, so far though the p2 cards has a wayyyyyyy lower failure rate, but like anything in life it can fail.
