fs-100 shipping?

If you want to go with P2 cards, then you'll always find some on ebay, even 8 GB cards.

I've been contemplating that seller. He won't take Paypal over 600 bucks and then he doesn't look like a certified Panny dealer. I can only assume he has the cards in stock and you're not buying into a waiting list like HVX sellers on Ebay. Right? I could write him and ask if he has the cards in hand but he's charging $300.00 more than some of the retailers. All these factors make it a bad deal, in my opinion.

I don't want the cards so bad that I'm willing to go through unknown channels and pay more than the going rate. I can wait. I can pester my dealers. I will eventually prevail.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

AMEN.

Do people really, honestly think these companies aren't wanting to sell you their products? They're doing what they can. Complaining about it just adds ugliness that doesn't need to be there.

This isn't specifically in defense of Jan or of Panasonic UK or anything like that, it's that animosity feeds on animosity. General complaining breeds more complaining, and things get ugly.

Instead of doing that, let's do something PRO-active. PRO. Let's talk to someone who can make a difference. Direct your queries to someone who can actually do something about it.

For Overland, perhaps Jan can figure out who has a P2 Store in stock and get that info back to you. For the rest of you, there's nothing Jan can do, the rest of the complaints here are about Panasonic UK and that's outside Jan's territory.

First, on the FireStore: I'll go on record right here, right now, and say that if anyone is counting on the firestore being out by a specific date, you're fooling yourself. I am anxiously awaiting my own FireStore, but if you look at their track record, Focus does not have a good record of meeting their delivery promises. They do deliver a good product, but they don't deliver it when they say they will. If they GUARANTEE a date, I'll still say "I'll believe it when I see it." The FS-4 was several months late. We're all hoping that history won't repeat itself with the FS-100, but... I ain't gonna believe it's out until I see it on the shelves, and I won't believe ANY promises about delivery date. I will not think of the FireStore as a viable for-sale product until it is ON THE SHELF.

On the CinePorter -- they've already announced that it could be 2nd or even 3rd quarter before that's out. That means it could be as late as September, folks. Again, don't make any plans for using that product until it's ON THE SHELF.

As to European P2 cards -- obviously it sounds like Panasonic Europe's communication with its dealers is not satisfactory for the users here who are expressing frustration. Please direct your energies towards someone who can do something about it -- Panasonic Europe. Go to their forum and post messages. I'll try to get a statement from someone there about what people should be doing. And if ANY European users find any dealers who have cards in stock, LET US KNOW. That's what the U.S. users have been doing; when we find out about a dealer who has stock, we come on the forum and say "hey, EVS has cards and ProMedia has cameras," etc. Please, UK users, do the same thing -- if you find stock, take the time to let your DVXUser brethren know where they are, because some of these people have a serious business need right now.

But please, we've had enough general ugliness and "piling on" going on in the last few months. Let's not add any more. As Jan said, and rightly so: everyone is working hard, why make it more difficult and uncomfortable?

It's a whole lot easier to curse the darkness than it is to just light a candle. Let's light the candle, and everyone benefits. Target your comments towards those who can do something about it.

Yeah, people need to take a chill pill.

Many complex products have their launches pushed back. Microsoct does it. Apple does it. This is nothing new.

Us freelancers shouldn't tell our clients that we can shoot HD to FireStores until the product is in our hands, and we've tested it and found it to work well. This goes for everything.

That's just it, there are none. I will carry on my UK P2 search tomorrow, and if I find some I will post a new thread.

I also think some dealers are only selling cards to people who have purchased the camera with them. This seems silly and doesn't help matters, but I suspect it will change within the next few weeks.

Chill pills taken, it's still very frustrating not being able to use this camera because of no P2 or FS.

Booth, I feel your pain, and I've put out a call to see if I can get some info.

In the meantime, again -- if anyone knows of any, please let us know here.

Also, how practical would it be to order from the US and have it fed-ex'd in? Would that be something you could do?

And Rhydon (I think it's Rhydon?) is selling a P2 Store here on the forum, maybe he could make arrangements to get it to you overnighted?

Where is Rhydon from? That said I think we're going with the laptop and a couple of 160gb drives (one for transfer, one for backup).

My laptop has 2 PCMCIA ports + Firewire so I think we're all set for offloading.

Many many thanks though Barry. We haven't got to editing yet :)

Got some 8gig P2 cards comming into the U.A.E in a few days i believe, could check shipping costs for yah, could send yah a couple. If you realy need. DHL and FED ex deliver practicaly the next day and it isnt that expensive.

I know, one hurdle down another to go... Still it'll be nice to use 1080i, DVCPro50 and 720 with variable frame rates down-rezzed to miniDV.

The main thing is that I can cover my current workload with DVCPro50 as the work I'm doing is being sent to a lot of nearby towns who will also need work. So this is like my calling card whilst earning, so DVCPro50 should be a nice step up from my DVX miniDV work.

Booth, download the Raylight demo and you could get 720P support immediatelly! You're just testing, right? Test with raylight to see results!

God, don't tell me the Firestore FS-100 won't be out for several months. And yes, I would take the bugs...
I have no idea when it will be out. At DV Expo they promised it would be out in March.

But the FS-4 missed its promised date by several months.

So all I'm saying is: don't go counting on it until you have it in your hands. And no way would I take the bugs -- there cannot be anything worse than a buggy/faulty recording medium!

When at this time the drive still has significant bugs, it won't be out for a long time. So it should not be that bad.

Does Raylight support 25p PAL footage?

Yes it does, just qualified it this week with some HVX footage
(1080i50, 1080-25p and 720-25p) from Spain.

Say, even when it can't record native, is it possible to convert 1080p footage into native for storage, even when the camera only can do this in 720p and below?

Many thanks MVB, Raylight looks like the solution for the moment. What great news. Does Raylight degrade or alter the footage at all?

Though it's another $195 :(

Raylight does this, yes.
