This is up on the FocusEnhancements site:

FS-100 Software v3.0 Upgrade Available Now
FS-100 v3.0 software adds native DVCPRO HD 720/24p, 25p and 30p recording which more than doubles record time. It is also now possible to record DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD QuickTime files for direct import into Final Cut Pro. New version (v3.0.0.04011507) posted on 1.29.07.

I placed an order - $45 CAN.

Hope this helps - I know it will help me - native 24!

Yeah, just placed my order. Kind of strange that it has to be sent on a CD. I thought it would be a down load. Oh well, 8.50 in shipping added on to upgrade price.

Hawaii shipping cost really sucks

Hawaii shipping cost really sucks

UPS Next day Air to Hawaii = $24.00

Could of saved a few $s on other shipping rate, but I wanted the thing yesterday.

Now the Firestore looks like a better buy... Can you view the clips on the LCD like with p2, or that's still not included?

Thanks for letting us know. I'm heading there now. It is strange that they would have to send a disk.

SPZ - FS-100 has always allowed you to view the clips on the camera's LCD.

Awesome - just ordered my upgrade.

Of course what isn't awesome is that I've had my FS-100 for a whole 2 days...and already I'm paying for an upgrade....but native recording is going to ROCK!

this made my day

so with the native Quicktime support, can adobe premiere pro 2.0 now read the files directly without 3rd party conversion ? I doubt it but, hey somebody out there knows more than me !

If Premiere 2.0 doesn't support DVCProHD codecs directly, then the workflow stays the same.

You always have been able to do this, you just don't get thumbnails.

WOW!! Great.
just what we've been waiting for. What about 1080 recording? also native?

If the HVX does it, the FS does it. And adds all those formats in native QuickTime and QuickTime Native. It's so very cool.

You don't have clip spanning like FCP did for you in the two QuickTime modes. But, I think, if we all ask Focus really politely to add it in a future update, I think they may consider it.

Just got this email from FOCUS

I ordered the update this morning - and there wasn't a dowload option avaialbe.
Is there one available now?

(EDITED TO ADD)
Scratch that - just went through the process again, without buying it this time, and I was only giving shipping options - no download option yet.

No download since they apparently do not have a web-store mechanism. It is worth the few days wait to get this software.

Wondering why the banner says:

"Version 3.0 Software Update Available for Download Now!"

Of course it's worth waiting for....that's exactly why I don't want to have to wait for it.

I ponied up for 2nd day air - so hopefully I can get it by Monday.

so... sorry for being such a newb, but how does this allow more than double the amount of HD content??

Also, if I'm buying this tomorrow, 3.0 obviously won't be loaded... shouldn't the upgrade be free? Anyone know?

The new firmware allows the FS-100 to do the pulldown removal on-the-fly, which gives you a clip that's essentially the same as a 24PN recording. If you go from 60 recorded frames per second (including a bunch of duplicate ones) to just 24, you save a boatload of disk space.

It allows for 2.5 times the amount of 720P/24 footage.

720P DVCProHD is a 60fps format.
When recording 24fps, duplicate frames are used to keep the signal at 60fps.
These are stripped out in post (upon capture for example) in order to have a 24fps file.

This was done mainly due to the need to have a tape transport at a constant speed.

With P2 cards you have the ability to record in 'native' mode - which records ONLY the 24 frames per second that the camera's chips are actually capturing. Since there is no tape transport to deal with - there is no need to record duplicate frames again.

However - the HVX always sends a full 60fps stream out of the firewire port. This helps in case you want to hook your camera up to a DVCProHD deck, for example, and record your signal to tape.

So - what the new upgrade does is it takes that 60fps signal, and records only the 24 frames per second that are needed, and ignores the other 36 duplicate frames per second.

So - recording 24 frames per second instead of 60 gives you roughly 2.5 times more footage on the same 100GB Drive.

24 X 2.5 = 60

I hope that made some sense.
