Free: Xh-a1 Fine Tuning Tool

It's not really anything close to Console though (obviously). All it does is lets you set up your scene file settings on the computer. Pretty convenient though if I had an SD card reader. :(

It's a little like DV rack - but offers proprietary control of Canon's XL2, A1, G1 and H1. Canon's website offers a free (trial) download to allow you to kick the tires.

On the trial version of Canon Console some of the features are not active. In particular the feature that permits the uploading of pre sets which is what this freeware is purported to provide.

yeah, that canon rack looks like a wallet rack to me. total waste of money if the only feature you need is the preset transfer.

You don't need any special software for preset transfer, just an SD card reader and Windows Explorer.

CONSOLE is great for tweaking the custom preset parameters and letting you see the effects as you do it. However there is a limit to how many people would need to do this so often that they would be prepared to pay $500 for it. There are already several good presets posted on the internet that are available for free, and possibly more to come. If Canon want to sell a lot of copies of CONSOLE they will need to rethink the pricing.

does it also offer storing direct to computer drive while you record on the camera? jaegersing... mind posting a link to the presets online?

The presets can be found here:

The CONSOLE software has a load of other functions, apart from the preset management, and I think it includes capture to hard disk, however I did not look into these areas as I was only interested in the custom presets. Maybe you can download the demo version and give it a try?

cool, thanks for the link. I was thinking about writing a tool but all the better if it's already done. I give it s test drive now.
